Apple Nut Ring
Ingredients:
2 packages (7.5 ounces each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 medium Granny Smith apples
1/3 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Separate biscuits. In Classic Batter Bowl, microwave butter on HIGH 30-45 seconds or until melted. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Dip biscuits in butter; roll in sugar mixture. Arrange biscuits in an overlapping circular pattern in Deep Dish Baker.
2. Peel, core and slice apples using Apple Peeler/Corer Slicer. Cut slices in half crosswise with Utility Knife. Place an apple slice between each biscuit and around outer edge of baker. Grate nuts using Deluxe Cheese Grater fitted with coarse grating drum. Mix nuts with any remaining sugar mixture; sprinkle over top.
3. Bake 25-30 minutes or until biscuits are deep golden brown. Serve warm using Mini-Serving Spatula.
To make the Apple & Raisin Braid, you will need apples, raisins, sugar, cinnamon, and a dough of your choice, such as puff pastry or homemade dough. Additionally, you may want to have some butter for brushing and an egg for egg wash to give it a golden finish.
The preparation time for the Apple & Raisin Braid typically takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on whether you are using pre-made dough or making your own. Baking time usually ranges from 25 to 35 minutes, so the total time from start to finish is approximately 1 hour.
Yes, you can substitute other fruits such as pears, peaches, or even berries for apples in the braid. Just keep in mind that different fruits may have varying moisture levels and sweetness, so you might need to adjust the sugar and cooking time accordingly.
Yes, the Apple & Raisin Braid can be frozen. It is best to freeze it before baking. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil to prevent freezer burn. When you're ready to bake it, simply thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then bake as directed.
The Apple & Raisin Braid can be served warm or at room temperature. It pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce. You can also dust it with powdered sugar for an elegant touch.
