I have a customer who was asking me about a recipe that she had years ago at a party. I told her I would try to find out what the recipe was. Here's the info i've got so far. She said it had cherry pie filling, cream cheese and icing on top. She said that she thought it was made like a braid. Any ideas what the recipe is???

Cherry Cheese Coffee Cake, but I forget which cookbook it's in.

All the best. I'll look for it now.

Here ya go! I believe in the ATB cookbook, they have it as a peachy coffee cake but you can use whatever pie filling you want.

I found it. It's in the favorites. Thanks!

This is SOOOOOOOOO good! Make sure you use the almond extract if you use cherry pie filling...they taste so good together!

She said it had some kind of icing on top. Any idea what the consultant might have used? I was thinking maybe powered sugar and milk....?

Yep- that would be what I'd use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need for a Braided Cherry Pie with Cream Cheese and Icing?

To make a Braided Cherry Pie with Cream Cheese and Icing, you will need the following ingredients: 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts, 1 can of cherry pie filling, 4 oz of cream cheese (softened), 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and for the icing, 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and additional vanilla extract to taste.

How do I prepare the cream cheese filling for the Braided Cherry Pie?

To prepare the cream cheese filling, beat the softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until smooth and creamy. Set aside while you prepare the pie crust.

What is the process for braiding the pie crust?

To braid the pie crust, roll out the pie crust and cut it into strips. Place the cream cheese filling in the center of the crust, then layer the cherry pie filling on top. Take the strips of crust and fold them over the filling in a crisscross pattern, creating a braid. Make sure to seal the edges well to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.

How long should I bake the Braided Cherry Pie?

Bake the Braided Cherry Pie in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t over-brown. If the edges start to brown too quickly, you can cover them with aluminum foil.

When should I add the icing to the Braided Cherry Pie?

Allow the Braided Cherry Pie to cool completely after baking. Once cooled, mix the icing ingredients (1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and vanilla extract) until smooth, then drizzle it over the pie. This will ensure the icing sets nicely on top of the pie.
