I'm doing a grilling show next weekend -- the hostess is a vegetarian, and one of the guests is a vegan. The hostess is very conscious about wanting to make sure that the vegan guest can eat most of the food that we make. We're going to do a vegan pizza, but I'm looking for a yummy appetizer (other than just grilled veggies) that we can do as an appetizer. I was going to do the avocado salsa cups, but the hostess doesn't really like tomatos (tomatoes??)

Does anyone have any ideas for a good vegan app? It doesn't have to be on the grill, necessarily.

Thanks!! :chef:

Vegan means no meat, dairy or animal by-products (such as honey). Any salsa recipe could work. In many cases you can get vegan equivalent ingredients. Recipes with Cheese might be tricky because vegan cheese is not the same as regular cheese, but the vegan customer would be a good resource to tap about that.
If you have the French Fry cutter, what about making fries?
There is this recipe http://www.pamperedchef.biz/images/en_US/news/recipes/pdf/recipe11.pdf where the only non vegan ingredient is asiago cheese. You can have your host try and find a substitute for that.
the Tapenades you could easily do as well. http://new.pamperedchef.com/recipe/98527 This one is tasty!
California Spring rolls http://new.pamperedchef.com/recipe/89267 you can easily make without shrimp and get vegan mayonaise.

Since I'm in love with the tapenades, I'd recommend them as well...I've done the roasted red pepper/sun dried tomato and the artichoke one..they were HUGE hits at 2 parties

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some easy vegan appetizers to prepare for a grilling show?

Some easy vegan appetizers for a grilling show include grilled vegetable skewers, marinated tofu bites, stuffed mushrooms with vegan cream cheese, and corn on the cob with vegan butter. These options are not only simple to prepare but also delicious and visually appealing.

How can I make grilled vegetable skewers more flavorful?

To enhance the flavor of grilled vegetable skewers, marinate the vegetables in a mixture of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and your choice of herbs and spices for at least 30 minutes before grilling. This will infuse them with delicious flavors and make them more enjoyable.

Are there any vegan dips that pair well with grilled appetizers?

Yes, several vegan dips pair perfectly with grilled appetizers. Consider serving a creamy avocado dip, a zesty salsa, or a tangy hummus. These dips not only complement the flavors of grilled items but also add a refreshing element to your appetizer spread.

What types of vegan cheese can I use for grilling?

For grilling, you can use vegan cheeses that are specifically designed for melting, such as cashew-based cheese or store-bought vegan mozzarella. These cheeses can be grilled on their own or used as a filling in stuffed vegetables for a delicious, cheesy flavor without the dairy.

How can I ensure my vegan appetizers are appealing to non-vegan guests?

To make vegan appetizers appealing to non-vegan guests, focus on bold flavors, vibrant colors, and appealing presentations. Use fresh herbs, spices, and creative plating techniques. Additionally, offering a variety of options can help cater to different tastes, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the meal.
