theOfficial Hijacking Threads Hijack Thread

In summary, many people are complaining about the way threads get hijacked and morph into something completely unrelated to the original thread title. Some say it's just the way normal conversation flows and topics change as one topic reminds speakers of another. Others say thread hijacking is an awful thing and it is terribly annoying. Well, this thread is going to stay on topic: thread hijacking! Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example.

I think it's the whole mental image of you in one of those theaters at all. You know - you're fun-loving and full of jokes and tidbits. But your personal image is completely dichotomous with the typical porno theater patron (at least according to the stereotypes).

Hey! This was post 9600!
Whoot! I'm such a post slut.

And now we're back full-circle to the topic at hand. er... in hand.... um... I'll shut up now.
That was back in the days before Pee Wee ruined the whole thing. ;)

Oh, those were the days. There were a handful of theatres that were catering to that crowd but the do-gooders were trying to get them all closed down.

One theater owner, in the suburbs, said showing adult films was the only way he could keep the place viable. He said that if he ran all G films, like the do-gooders wanted, he'd go broke in less than a month. So, the locals all said they'd support him if he ran nothing but G rated films.

He did.

They didn't.

The place closed in less than 6 weeks and was bulldozed to build condominiums.

Hey KG,
Which place is this that you are talking about?? Just curious...thanks.

It was a two screen theatre attached to a shopping center in Muskego. It's all gone now.

Found a hilarious blog this weekend, linked from another one that I read occasionally: Dad Gone Mad. Warning: it's a little "blue" - lots of scatological humor. But the man can spin a good yarn.

Just read the "They were right", almost cried! Very good blog, thanks for sharing.

Assorted musings this morning...DH got his iPhone yesterday. *cough*nerd*cough*There was a deer in my yard for half an hour this morning, calmly eating leaves off my trees. This isn't a big deal for many people here, but I'm in a first-ring suburb of Detroit. My house is 1/2 mile from Eight Mile Road (yes, like the movie). It was cool.Pumpkin pound cake with our cinnamon and caramel sprinkles in it is good for breakfast.

<giggle> I didn't notice if it was a buck or doe. We've seen a family of 3 in the neighborhood, but this one was a single.Ugh- I have a list a mile long of things to do to get ready for my show tonight, but I don't feel like doing them.

So my show Saturday was a complete flop - nobody showed up. Yuk! The host is calling her friends to see if they can come this Friday, and we're going to change it to a Ladies' night out, hoping that will entice some people to come. I think it was just too nice out on Saturday - people got involved with other things.

DH successfully hacked his iPhone to work with non-ATT service. He's such a nerd. Of course, it took him 4 hours to do it - with instructions.

I've actually got a day off!No where to be. No appointments. No doctors. No dives. No drives. I even slept in.There's more on http://www.jrmanning.com/, if you care. And if you don't care, I don't either. It's my day off, after all.

  • #3,261
mmm.... lazy do-nothing day off. Hooray! :balloon:

Go make some PC phone calls - book some November shows for Sell-a-thon! And call some recruit leads - take advantage of the recruiting promo that was announced yesterday! We'd love to see you at Leadership as a FD. Or better yet, a Director.

  • #3,262
If he's still having trouble being understood, the calls could be interesting. :)Hey, KG, I had a conversation with one of my aunts the other day about HBOT. She has a leg injury and they said she may need to do HBOT if it doesn't heal well or quickly enough. By sharing your story with her, I was able to allay her fears.

Did you share any of http://www.jrmanning.com/ with her?

I'm a big fan of HBOT, although you might not think so to read some of my stuff. Healing will be much faster for her.

The reason why is explained toward the end of the HBOT thread and inhttp://www.jrmanning.com/. It all has to do with increasing blood oxygenation, which comes from breathing oxygen under pressure.

But, of course! I had just read your blog to The Furry Guy that morning, so it was fresh in my mind. I've printed it off and filed it away. I have a feeling I'll be sharing this information a lot.

One of the best scenes in Who Framed Roger Rabbit was the Daffy Duck /Donald Duck piano duel. My niece and nephew wore out a VHS cassette of that movie when they were kids and can recite the dialog like you do The Simpsons.

(You know how we're told television rots our rains? They're both college brats now, he's a music major at Memphis and she's doing grad work in molecular biology.)

  • #3,269
We've got Roger Rabbit on Laserdisc. :) If they made that movie now, it would all be CG. But back then, they hired just about every animator in the WORLD who wasn't already contracted to Disney.

The cartoon in a cartoon was probably the last really great animation. As realistic and great as CG have become, there just isn't anything like the old cell on film animations.

Can you just imagine what Chuck Jones could have done with CG?

Hey-I have an interview today for my day job! Gotta brush up on some skills I haven't used in 2 years so I don't sound like a total moron. Hopefully, the client will go with me - I've been on the bench for a year and am starting to get a little nervous.

It's not that difficult, really. Just keep putting one foot forward and lean into it, then the other and lean into it, and pretty soon you'll be walking again. Just remember to keep your balance and keep breathing. You'll get the hang of it again in no time.

My boss is juggling a number of projects - I was going to say he has too many balls in the air but it's more like too many chainsaws - that he's not sure where to send me first. The surgeon is more than pleased with the healing and he was also amused by my blog entry about the surgery. All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. And canines. And bicuspids. And molars.

Of course, we're all a little off most of the time.

Ok- I'm in a quandry.

I work as an IT contractor. My employer contracts me out to clients to do programming and maintenance on their mainframe systems. I've been with my employer 9 years, and was at one particular client for 7 of them. I don't like working at the client. In fact, in spring of 2006, I requested to be taken off the account because of my strong feelings. (I had almost walked in front of a bus on my way back to the office after lunch - on purpose.) At the end of September 2006, I was released from the account because the client was off-shoring some of the work on the project I was on.

I've been "on the bench" since then, with the exception of 7 days in May of this year. While my employer officially has a "no limit on bench time" policy, it's believed that after a year they start looking for reasons to let you go. My bench time restarted after the May assignment, so I should be OK, but you never know.

Anyhoo, the account manager for the icky client contacted me a couple months ago. She had some openings there on a new team, maintaining a system there that I've never used. I told her that I wasn't interested in going back. (I believe my exact words were, "If I wanted to be stuck there for my entire career, I would have hired in when they were doing that 2 years ago.") So she asked for my opinion on a couple of other "bench" folks who had experience there. I recommended 2 for the lead position. End of story.

Or at least that's what I thought. Jump ahead to yesterday. Account manager called me again. Someone (and it could have been our end OR the client's end) stalled on making a decision, and one of the fellas I recommended has been placed on a different account. Can I go to an interview? Well, I don't want to be fired for refusing an interview or for purposely blowing one, but I REALLY don't want to end up back there. And I just got a note this morning with the contact person for the interview. I've associated with him on past projects (never actually been ON his team, thank God), and he's a real prick.

So here's my quandry. If they ask why I agreed to the interview, do I give them an "interview" answer about wanting to expand my skill set and get into a leadership position, or do I tell them the truth that I didn't want to refuse it and be fired?

I'm passing this along to someone who knows more about life in corporate politics. I've never (knowingly) worked for a company that had more than 20 employees - and you couldn't believe the politics in that place - and even that was 25 years ago. I've been on my own for so long that I don't remember the correct procedure for kissing a superior's butt.

  • #3,296
I wish. The boss has so many projects right now, all screaming for his attention, that he can't decide where he needs me most. I thought I was going to be in Ohio this week, but that crisis seems to have taken care of itself. The next project reads more like a weather alert. I have a feeling that I'm going to be headed along a line, 75 miles either side of a line, from Chicago to Dallas.
