For those that remember, I posted about two months ago about female troubles I've been having. After waiting for my dr. to refer me to a specialist, I finally have a surgery date set.

Next Monday, the 24th @ 9:00 am, I'll have an endometrial ablation done, as well as laporscopic (sp) surgery to check for & fix endometriosis. They said that the procedures will take about an hour & the recovery is just a couple of days.

When I went for my appt., the doc was so great. Although, she kept asking me if I was sure that I was done having kids (the ablation is a permanent thing & is dangerous if I were to become pregnant again). I reassured her that we were done..... we already have 3 beautiful children & dh had a vasectomy last Dec.

So, please keep me (and dh, he'll be a wreck) in your prayers for next Monday. :)

Thanks.
Crystal

Yep - thanks! I turned 30 @ 10:30 this morning. :) Happy belated to you, too!

Wait - are the prayers for my surgery or for being 30?? ;) j/k. I know what you mean.

Thanks to everyone else too for the prayers! :)

I know with female troubles you will be glad to get this fixed. I am having a laproscopic partial hysterictomy in Dec. and cannot wait.

Crystal,

Sending healing energy & prayers your way.

I had a myomectomy (removal of fibroids) a week ago. What a life difference this has made! (and it will only get better :)) so I hope you have the same relief and success!

I'm hoping & praying that I'll have great success with the surgery. I've had horrible cramping before that has left me doubled over in pain & not able to move. My doc actually said that even with the pain from the surgery, that I should be much better off than not having it at all.

Thanks again to everyone for the prayers. :)

Crystal,
I actually had this done on March 1st, and couldn't recommend it more!! I thought it was absolutely the greatest thing ever for women!!!
Here's what I did, don't know if it will help, but here goes....

I had it done in the A.M. Was to be there at 6, surgery was to be at 7:30. Of course, they're never "on-time", so the surgery wasn't until about 8:30. Result? I was actually leaving the facility at 10:45!!! It was great!

What else? Well, I'm a little crazy, I know, but I actually didn't go to bed the night before, just stayed up. Why? So I'd be good and tired that day, and would be able to sleep alot!!

The surgery is a general anesthetic. My hubby brought me home, then went to work. The nurse kinda looked at us funny, that no one was going to stay at home with me, etc., but I knew I'd be fine, as I've had other operations and kind of know how to be a "good patient", I guess you could say.

We came home, and I laid on the couch, which is also a recliner, all afternoon, with the tv on. Mostly I slept. Kids started coming home from school around 3:15, so I was really only home alone for about 4 hours or so.
As for pain, it was nothing worse than monthly cramps; in fact, I've had worse cramps!! Took advil. No big deal!

That night, my son had a band concert. We didn't need to go until about 8, and, quite frankly, I was ready to "be awake" for awhile, so we went. I figured, why not? I mean, we were sitting in the dark, in an auditorium, and what was the worst thing that could happen? I might fall asleep? lol

The next day, my husband left to go snow-skiing with the kids. It was a Friday, and they were gone until Saturday night, so I had the entire two days to basically "lounge" around. By Saturday, I was definitely "back to normal" feeling! (Quite frankly, I felt really good on Friday, too!!)

Well, that's about it!! It was a very good decision, one I've never regretted, to be sure!!

I hope you have as good of an operation as I did!!

Best wishes for you!

Paula

Hi everyone - thanks for the prayers!

Everything went very well. My surgery took a little longer than planned, but I'm home & doing good.

The gas that they used for the laporscopic surgery is causing me more pain then the actual incisions! I've been sleeping since I got home around 2 & feel pretty well right now. Except for the sore throat b/c of the tube.

I think I'm still a little foggy from the general & the vicodin.

Anyway, just wanted to give you all an update. :)

1. What is the purpose of an endometrial ablation and laparoscopy?

An endometrial ablation is a surgical procedure that is used to remove the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. This is typically done to treat heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding. Laparoscopy, on the other hand, is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose and treat a variety of gynecological issues, such as endometriosis or pelvic pain.

2. How long does the surgery usually take?

The length of the surgery can vary depending on the individual case, but on average, an endometrial ablation and laparoscopy can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

3. Will I have to stay overnight in the hospital?

In most cases, an endometrial ablation and laparoscopy is done as an outpatient procedure, meaning you will be able to go home the same day. However, if there are complications or if your doctor feels it is necessary, you may need to stay overnight for observation.

4. What is the recovery process like?

Recovery time can vary for each individual, but most women are able to return to their normal activities within 1-2 weeks. You may experience some cramping, bloating, and vaginal discharge for a few days after the surgery, but these symptoms should subside with proper rest and pain medication.

5. Are there any risks or complications associated with this surgery?

As with any surgical procedure, there are some potential risks and complications, such as infection or injury to surrounding organs. Your doctor will discuss these risks with you and take steps to minimize them. It is important to follow all post-operative instructions and attend any follow-up appointments to ensure a smooth recovery.
