Suitcase or Carry-On: What's the Best Option for a Conference Trip?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the dilemma of choosing between a large suitcase and a carry-on for an upcoming conference trip. Participants emphasize the financial implications of checked baggage fees, particularly with airlines like Southwest, which allows two checked bags under 50 lbs for free. The consensus leans towards opting for a carry-on to avoid extra fees and to limit impulse purchases. Additionally, tips on managing toiletries in compliance with TSA regulations are shared, highlighting the 3 oz. liquid limit and the need for proper packaging to prevent spills.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of airline baggage policies, specifically Southwest Airlines' checked baggage rules.
  • Familiarity with TSA regulations regarding carry-on items, particularly liquid restrictions.
  • Knowledge of effective packing strategies to maximize space in luggage.
  • Awareness of shipping options for excess items, such as using FedEx for sending goods home.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research TSA guidelines for carry-on liquids and prohibited items.
  • Explore packing techniques to optimize space in a carry-on bag.
  • Investigate shipping services like FedEx for sending items home from conferences.
  • Review airline-specific baggage policies to avoid unexpected fees.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for conference attendees, frequent travelers, and anyone looking to optimize their packing strategy while minimizing travel costs and adhering to airline regulations.

I need a little bit of help packing, please. Looking over the NC agenda (I'm wave 1) ~~~ I have signed up for my litte classes and first timer orientation outside of that what other events do I need to attend? I'm just consultant, I haven't hit my $15,000 mark yet :( But as far as the Banquets go do I go to any of them? I don't want to over pack and I SURE don't want to under pack!

The Agenda lists all the events. You'll get an invitation to any of the special meals/receptions (President's Reception, career club, etc.). If you won't be going to those, then your schedule should include:
general sessions
general meals (none on day 1, 2 on day 2, 1 on day 3)
banquet (hosted by your Executive Director)
workshops and first timer orientation

Unless your ED has a theme for the banquet, you'll really only need one outfit for each day.
