Some Peoples' Parents...(Vent)...

were there to comfort her. I do hope the teacher would say something about it to the mother and tell her someone else had to care for her daughter since she was left that way. Shame on her.

Ok, I just finally got on for the day and this has been bothering me ALL day so I have to vent it...

So, I take my daughter and friend's kids to school today. I go talk to DS's preschool teacher for a few minutes to see how his 2 days of school went...turns out my son was the "disciplinarian" of the class - trying to keep the kids in line - go figure! LOL!

Then up to say good-bye to DD and give her hugs. I walk into her room and her teacher is walking in with a little blonde-haired 1st grader with her knuckles bleeding, her nose scraped raw and a fat lip. :( ...and about 4 kids worried about her. I get all the other kids shooed off to put their things away and the teacher asks for my help (she knows I'm an EMT and she is O.K. with band-aids but worried about this). I take the little girl to the bathroom, clean and bandage her up and discover her front tooth is loose and she said it wasn't loose before. Luckily, it is a baby tooth.

So, I escort her back to class, get her settled...she sits next to DD so DD is now comforting her and I'm explaining to the "kind" kids telling her she looks awful and needs surgery that she is just fine, it'll heal up and please don't tell her it looks bad (that makes a 6 year old cry)!

I express my concern to the teacher about the tooth and recommend that they call the parents to tell them and let them decide if they want to leave her for the day or get her looked at. Well, the teacher says, "I would but she says she fell when she got out of the car, Mom saw it, she showed Mom and Mom drove off and left her."

WHAT MOTHER WOULD LEAVE A 6 YEAR OLD BLOODIED WITH A FAT LIP AND ENTIRELY SCRAPED NOSE AND KNUCKLES AND DRIVE OFF?!?!?!?!

No wonder the girl was crying and clinging to me when I cared for her. :(

I was late for work today by about 10 minutes, but my boss is so flexible and great about it and I couldn't leave the poor girl like that.

Oh jeez! That's awful!! I wonder if mom really did see her fall. If so, that's sad!

You're right! Some people's parents! Humph!! :grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

Poor little thing. I can't imagine leaving a bleeding child on the sidewalk. In her defense (because, Lord knows she needs one), maybe her boss has a zero-tolerance policy for tardiness.

We asked the girl again and she claims she told her. Who knows from a 6 year old but either way the mom will see it when she gets home!!!! Her little nose was scraped raw and her lip was really fat and the tooth is really loose!

I'll have to ask DD when I get her how she fared in school. Knowing my daughter she comforted her all day...

I thought that too, but at least run get your child help or send another child with her...many parents were walking in during that time!

How sad, it's a good thing you were there Janet. Poor little girl. Either the mother's priorities are all messed up or maybe she abused her daughter. I hate to think of the latter and be so negative but in this day and age I would not be surprised. Mankind is so depraved and capable of such evil.
It's so wonderful that you were there to comfort her. I do hope the teacher would say something about it to the mother and tell her someone else had to care for her daughter since she was left that way. Shame on her.

Debbie :D

when i was in kindergarten i fell and probably looked the same as that little girl did. they bandaged me up and sent me back to class. my mom picked me up later that day & and was furious that the school didnt call her - she then notified the school that even if i got a papercut & it required the nurses assistance, she was to be called. i just cant imagine a parent not atleast taking the child to the bathroom to clean out the "owies."

dear, dear Janet..........there goes that gene pool theory again!

I am glad you & Sammie were there for this little girl..............and I pray her Mom really didn't see how bad the situation was.

Yeah, I agree. Thank goodness she had you to patch her up and dry her tears.

Goodness! I cannot imagine leaving my child like this. I can barely leave them even when I know they are fine! That is just awful!! Even if it is an untolerable boss, mine would just have to get over it!:grumpy:

Did you see or hear anything about the girl when you picked your kids up from school this afternoon or do they ride the bus home?

My daughter is at the sitter for about 30 more minutes. I'm done with work, but need to run 2 errands before I get her. I'll know in about an hour or so when I pick her up and get home with her.

Wow, that's really awful.
Surprised the school let her come in like that instead of calling that mother to come pick her up.

Awhh, that breaks my heart. I don't understand it at all.
I've been sad all week b/c my 4yo started Pre-K and he's not used to it and keeps asking to go back to his old daycare. It makes me want to cry. So, if he had fallen that bad and was that hurt and crying like that, I'd probably be hours late to work to get him all fixed up and settled.

That poor little girl. I hope she is ok now.

And being a former teacher..the school district can get in A LOT of trouble for not reporting it to the parent............

When my oldest DD was in Kindergarten a mom dropped her vomiting with a fever child off at the drop off in front of the school, said "Sorry, but I have to go to work!" and drove off! The school could not reach any of her emergency contacts so the girl had to stay in the nurse's office for the entire day...

poor child! sounds also like DD has picked up on your caring genes and example. i'm sure you're proud of her.

I just don't get it.......at all.......can't say any more!

Not sure if its PMS or not but I sure did get teary eyed reading that. What is wrong with people. That little girl will not forget how kind you were to her.

It's not hormones, Jenni. I got sad, then a little mad.

Poor thing! I know what you mean....being involved with PTO, Girl Scouts, kids club at church...I see all kinds; still don't get it though!

She came in with classmates and they immediately cared for her. ...hard to get ahold of a mother that just drove off.

It is a private school so parents usually bring the kids in but not always.

Update: DD said she did fine the rest of the day...her bandaids had to be changed after lunch because her nose was still bleeding a little. She did well and make it through. I was more worried about the loose tooth hurting her.

Good because I don't have PMS and if I'm pregnant, DH & I will be having a serious conversation! :p

I was sympathetic and in the "mom/nurse"-type role, then I got mad at how someone could do that.

OBVIOUSLY it was bothering me if I finally posted late in the day and it happened in the morning.

You all know I don't vent much! :D

I just cannot fathom this Mom driving off like this....I really don't want to keep harping on it, but DANG! What is wrong with people like this?

Back in March, my DD had her birthday party at a local hair salon (that was toooo much fun!). When she was getting in my van, she realized she had not hugged her BFF goodbye, so she jumped out. Her foot got tangled on my seatbelt and she did a face plant in the parking lot........it was awful. Now, think about how this little girl today took pretty much the same fall my Rachel did....how could Mom not know??????????? Rachel was cut and bruised for days following this. It so irks me that you have to have a licsence to drive a car, catch a fish but any idiot can spawn a child............you have to do more than that to be a parent................

AMEN! Giving birth does NOT make you a mommy...that comes with caring for the wellbeing of that child and knowing you would place your life down for their life! It amazes me how many people are given the gift of children and then spit all over it.

Janet...glad she had YOU there to help her and get her all fixed up this morning!

I hope the teacher let the principal know about this so if it is repeated, they can make an abuse complaint. I too feel the mother needed to pay more attention. Wonder if she will come in ranting and raving about "who did this" to her little darling in the morning!? Amen to what you said Chefmeg. I think anyone that has a child should be required to attend parenting classes for at least 6 weeks after the birth and at each major stage (Kindergarten, Middle School, High School) to get some brains! Neglect makes me want to spit....on the neglectful parent...but that isn't "Christ-like" so I'll just pray for the lady!

You guys are much nicer than I am! :) I feel really bad for the little girl but I'd be sorely tempted to find the mom, & push her down face first then leave her scraped (sp) & bloodied.:grumpy:

I mean honestly...how could you leave your baby like that?!? Just goes to show, some people have no @#$% business having children.:grumpy::mad:

My thoughts exactly!! It makes me sad to think that this little girl's Mom did that. :( I would NEVER dream of leaving my DD like that!!! The school should have called the Mom though, because she may not have seen it. Maybe the little girl was scared to get in trouble with her Mom or something. Who knows what goes through a 6 YO's mind?

I hope she's feeling better. You and your DD are awesome, Janet! :)

Speaking of classes....our primary school that my youngest DD attends is offering parenting classes! AND they are offering a bribe! LOL! If you attend all four classes and pass the test you get a $25 GC to Target! Believe you me..there are a lot of folks at our school we can use the extra help. TBH~I am curious and might take the class myself to see if it can help!

:sing:Sounds like a great idea and a lot of people will go for the bribe!

1. What happened to the little girl you cared for at your daughter's school?

The little girl had fallen and injured herself, resulting in scraped knuckles, a bloody nose, and a fat lip.

2. What did you do to help the little girl?

As an EMT, I cleaned and bandaged her injuries and provided comfort and reassurance.

3. How did the teacher react to the situation?

The teacher expressed concern and sought my help in caring for the little girl.

4. Did the little girl's parents know about the incident?

According to the teacher, the little girl's mother witnessed the fall and left her without seeking further care or attention.

5. How did this experience affect your day?

While it made me late for work, my boss was understanding and I couldn't leave the little girl in her injured state.
