TammyJo said:Well, I done my job fair today and it wasn't very good. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay to set up. Not very many people came but I did talk to a few ladies about the PC opportunity and will follow up in a few days. I may get a few shows out of it but not sure yet. Not worth the day that I took off from my full time job to set up. Oh well, live and learn.![]()
When attending a job fair, it's essential to bring several items to make a strong impression. These include multiple copies of your resume, a notepad and pen for taking notes, business cards, and a professional portfolio if applicable. Additionally, consider bringing a list of questions to ask employers and a professional-looking bag to keep everything organized.
Dressing appropriately for a job fair is crucial as it reflects your professionalism. Opt for business casual attire at a minimum, such as dress pants or a skirt paired with a collared shirt. If you want to make a stronger impression, consider wearing a suit. Ensure your clothes are clean, pressed, and fit well to convey confidence.
To prepare your elevator pitch, start by summarizing your professional background, key skills, and what you are looking for in a job. Keep it concise, ideally around 30 seconds to one minute. Practice delivering it smoothly and confidently, and tailor it to the types of companies you expect to meet at the job fair.
Before attending a job fair, research the companies that will be present. Focus on those that align with your career goals, industry interests, and values. Look into their company culture, recent news, and job openings. This knowledge will help you engage in meaningful conversations and demonstrate your interest during the event.
Following up after a job fair is vital for making a lasting impression. Send a thank-you email to the recruiters or representatives you spoke with, expressing your appreciation for their time and reiterating your interest in their company. Personalize each message by referencing specific conversations you had. This can help keep you top of mind as they consider candidates for open positions.
