Hi everyone - I need to ask for you to lift my baby boy, Samuel, up in prayers. He's 2 1/2 & last night fractured his collar bone. I know that these things happen often & will heal, but prayer is always better! :)

He & Daddy were playing last night while we were waiting for our supper at Denny's. Daddy gave him a big hug & we heard a 'pop'. It was his collar bone & we took him straight to the ER. The manager at Denny's chased us down in the parking lot to make sure that it didn't happen because of something there. That part was kind of funny. Wanting to make sure that they weren't going to be sued & all.

He's in a butterfly sling this morning & we are getting an appt. set up with an ortho specialist.

We'll keep you updated. Oh, prayers for DH would be good too, b/c he feels terrible. He (DH) hasn't eaten & now feels worse that we have to see a specialist.

Thanks!

Aww, poor guys! Kids are troopers & heal quickly; give them both extra smooches:)

Too bad! I hope both of them are feeling better soon.

Poor baby. We'll keep you and your family in our prayers!!!

Awww...tell Daddy that he didn't do anything wrong! Little ones bones are growing and can be fractured by many different types of "fluke" things...he could have hugged him the SAME EXACT way last week and didn't hurt him. Tell him not to worry!

Prayers that your DH would not feel guilty...and that DS heals quickly and completely!!

Awww... hope you little guys feels better soon!

Prayers for your family.

He'll do great, he's still little. I think your poor DH is hurt worse! Maybe you should set up some Daddy-Son time for them to go out and have ice cream or something to cheer them up!

So sorry to hear about this! I think your DH hurts worse than your DS. Prayers for all of you!

Awww.. poor DS and DH. It really hurts your heart when you accidentally hurt a little one. :( I was playing frisbee with my boyfriend yesterday and didn't notice that my 1 year old neice was close to us and I bonked her right in the head with the frisbee. :( She started bawling and of course it scared her so bad. I felt like a klutz AND a really bad Aunt. :(

Poor little guy. Poor little guy's daddy. My brother and his son were playing. My nephew jumped over his daddy, fell, and broke his arm. My nephew's arm healed a lot quicker than my brother's guilt. Funny--my nephew's name is Samuel.

Poor thing, he is a cutie!!

Prayers for you, DH and your son!

Thanks everyone. We've seen the specialist & they say that he's going to heal just fine & won't need surgery or anything like that.

DH is doing better. Now I just have to figure out how to keep a 2 yo little boy that's all boy from being too active.

OK - so how do I keep him from trying to take this brace off? The doc said not to fight him when he wanted it off, but really, two days? Should I let him go without it? He's still screaming bloody murder in pain when he moves the wrong way. He can't use his right arm fully when he tries to lift something or climb up on a chair.

I hate seeing my baby in pain!! Tylenol & Motrin around the clock aren't cutting it either. Ugh.

The only thing I can think of is to make it a game and a reward for using it. Maybe you can set the timer for 15 minutes at a time and if he has it on when the timer goes off he gets a nickel for his bank.

Maybe around the house you guys can practice together doing things with your left hand.

Make a sling for yourself if you can handle it a bit and tell him you'll play along.

If he won't wear it, when he is resting, prop pillows for him.

You can only do so much. Collar bones actually heal pretty well most of the time and are hard to splint anyway.

As a nurse for over 16 years I had an Orthopedist tell me as long as a childs bone is in the same room it will heal. They heal so much easier than we adults do for sure.

I hope you can find some type of comfort measures with his medicine.

My daughter broke her arm when she was 3 and turned 4 while in the cast. She struggled for about 3-4 days and then there is less pain for children.

I am praying for your sanity through all of this, and for Sam's comfort and healing.
