One of my cousin's daughters is graduating this year, she had a Catty Show last year b/4 grad..

She e-mailed me last night and wants to have a "Graduates" and moms show! She wants to invite a LOT of people -YEAH!:D

She wants the show in March!:chef:

She wants me to come up w/an idea of menus that they can do at college.

Any thoughts? Recipes, Demos, products?

Microwave cooking: rice cooker, prep bowls, batter bowls. The new lemon cakes would be a good idea to show a great dessert in even the smallest microwave.

I second the microwave thing. At my college, we had to live in the dorms freshman year, and the shared kitchens were pretty pathetic (of course, we also had to have a meal plan for the cafeteria, so we only used the kitchens for snacks). Microwave dips would be good. This one's a little silly, but how about the Asian Noodle Skillet? It would show that there is something delicious that can be made with ramen noodles, a college staple. :)

30 Minute chicken! Show them they can have a good home cooked meal even in a dorm room. Makes the moms feel good about it too, they won't just be eating pizza and fast food 7 nights a week!
Good luck, let us know how it goes!

I swear I saw another recipe in an older cookbook that had ramen noodles in it. Teaches them a good way to eat cheap but fix it up to feel like a real meal.

I like the 30 minute chicken idea too.

Good idea, but tough to clean out the chicken in the bathroom sink before cooking...or I can picture them washing a chicken in the shower... :D

I doubt that many college students will want the deep covered baker in their tiny dorm rooms and besides that many have mini-microwaves so it wouldn't fit anyway.

I would go with recipes that use the small bar pan or the mini baker for college students.

...from a mom of a college freshman.

She mentioned moms and graduates. It would be something good for the moms.

That's why I originally suggested the new lemon cakes, I was thinking smaller microwaves.

Oh, yeah, that too!

I gave my son and his friends a bunch of PC products as HS grad gifts to take to college. Many of them are used daily or often but others aren't. Remember these are guys. Girls might like additional things...

They USE:

small bar pan
i-slice
kitchen shears
tumblers (I had the old ones but thought I'd mention since we have those new ones. 1 or 2 are plenty so one set would be gifts for 1-3 students.)
prep bowl (one is plenty)
microfiber towel
utensil set (again, they don't need/want all 6)
classic scraper
hot pad trivet
twixit clips
small bamboo spoons
mini-whipper
mini-serving spatula
small micro cooker
quikut paring knife (new nylon knife would be good too)

I didn't give all those things to all of them but DS got and uses them all. I also gave him the measure all, small saute, can opener and other things but he has brought them home to save for when he goes into an apartment - says he didn't use them and didn't have room for anything he doesn't use.

He doesn't like apples but a student who does would love the apple wedger too. I know there are other things but it's a start...

Do a search for "dorm room". I remember a flyer a while back.

Actually do a search in the files, I found one in there.
