here is the scenario:
My sister lives in TX, I am in Virginia. My nephew is in the school marching band and they are trying to raise $$$ for a trip to NYC next spring. I would LOVE to have them do a fundraiser, but there obviously couldn't be a demo. What do you all think the best way to handle the logistics is AND do you think I should offer incentives to the kids as I think it will motivate them (I could get donations from local stores...local to them, not me!)

Well you can easily do a catalog show fundraiser and maybe for a kickoff your sister could do a simple recipe using products she has (you can always buy her a thank you gift).

Incentives for the kids are good but I don't think you have to do a lot.

You could also make a donation of a gift "basket" that could be raffled off at the kick off - ship everything directly to your sister off of an open show - do a small SA, either the quacamole or chipolte ranch seasoning, and a small bamboo spoon set. This will cost you under 25.

You can also do the split the pot fundraiser. Have them sell raffle tickets and half the pot can go to the organization and other half would be Pampered Chef "shopping sprees."

check out the "cookbook fundraiser" that is on here. It is awesome!

Please, please be careful doing anything with a giveaway that involves chance, whether it's a traditional raffle or a 50/50 type drawing. In many states, those are highly regulated and require permits. I'd hate to see someone get in trouble because they were trying to help an organization out.

Thanks for the reminder Ann, I totally forgot about that possible issue with the split the pot/raffle stuff.

You absolutely CAN do a cooking show - use it as the last step of a 3-fold plan.

(1) The group meets, a donor buys ingredients, and they make 3-5 batter bowl mixes, each person - have your director get them for you at 40% off, sell them filled for $15-20... Each person who buys one, also gets a Catalog from kid who made batter bowl. (Mixes are on consultants corner - recipe search - celebrations the first one)

(2) Everyone in group generates interest in presales and websales and catalog sales

(3) All sales are due at the closing event cooking demo (do something chocolate which everyone loves).

I have given this suggestion before - do a search on my posts and you'll find more detail. Or, email me.

yes, here in Texas that would not be allowed

Meg,
Here's a suggestion BEFORE you spend a lot of time, energy and $$ on this fundraiser. Make sure it is approved!!!

School groups are highly watched by UIL here in Texas. they are only allowed so many fundraisers a year, & unless your sister is on the fundraising committee and has approval already chances are it might be turned down.

I don't remember the # but, I want to say they can have 1 a year.... It's really alot of sticky rules. Our football team the Jr. High and Freshman sell insulated cups with the school mascot/logo but once they are on varsity or JV they can not raise funds.

I tried searching on CC for these recipes and am not having any luck. Can you tell me what keywords to use to find them?

Thanks!

Sandy, they're in the theme show archive. The first season we had the Celebrations Theme shows, one theme was Gifts to Go.

Thanks, Ann! Found them. Taste of Home and Quick Cooking also have some really good mixes. I'll have to dig them out. Time to start thinking of Christmas gift ideas!

Lots of books available at craft stores have "Canning Jar Mixes" that go into 1-quart canning jars. Those recipes also work in the Small Batter Bowl. :)
