Missing Spinach? Discover Leafy Alternatives for Salads!

In summary, there are various leafy green alternatives to use in salads if you do not have spinach, such as arugula, kale, romaine lettuce, mixed greens, and spring mix. While frozen spinach can be substituted for fresh spinach in some recipes, it is not recommended for salads due to its different texture. Though there are nutritional differences between spinach and other leafy greens, all are nutritious and should be included in a balanced diet. Mixing different types of leafy greens in a salad is a great way to add variety and flavor. To keep leafy greens fresh, store them unwashed in a plastic bag or container with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Wash them right before using for the best taste and texture.

Is anyone else really missing spinach? What other leafy things are you putting in your salads? I am not too knowledgable on lettuce and I have been eating romaine since this whole spinach thing happened and I am getting sick of it. I tried arugula, but its just too bitter for me. Does anyone have any leafy suggestions?

We can buy spinach here but just not in the bags. Is the bunches off the shelves there as well?

I miss it too :( I am paranoid about lettuce now too. ugh.

Just eat more cheesecake.

It's healthier.

EXCELLENT idea! I am a huge cheesecake fan, too! :)

Plan to grow your own next year! That won't help now, but maybe the frozen stuff will do in the meantime? Check out the bagged lettuce mixes. They were NOT affected by the whole ecoli thing.

I love the letterman joke about spinach- there's never been a better time to pick a fight with Popeye!!

For my show the other night, we used a bagged lettuce blend; I think it was a European blend. Everyone loved the salad. And I let them know that the recipe originally calls for spinach, so once the recall is over they can make it with that!
