I just got back from my son's Cub Scout Christmas party and somebody had brought the most sinful treat...I'm sure I've seen it before or heard of it, but don't know what it's called or what the recipe is. I can identify most of the ingredients but not sure how it was assembled and quantities. Can you help?

It's got butter, saltines, brown sugar and chocolate and looks like it was made in a big sheet then broken into serving-size pieces.

I'd love to add this to my arsenal (I'm just not a "make it up by the seat of my pants" gal).

Thanks!

This might be what you're looking for... it's funny, I just came across this recipe a few days ago, and thought it was an awfully strange concoction. But I've never tried it, so who am I to say? I found it on Recipezaar.com.

Easy Cracker Candy Recipe #15098
24 candies
15 min 10 min prep

40 saltines
1/2 cup butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar or dark brown sugar
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Preheat oven to 400 F degrees.
Place the crackers side by side in a foil-lined jelly-roll pan (I spray the foil with non-stick spray).
Combine the butter and brown sugar in saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Cook for 3 minutes.
Pour the mixture over the crackers.
Bake 5 minutes.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the baked crackers.
Let stand 5 minutes then spread the melted chocolate over the top.
Sprinkle with nuts if desired.
Chill in the refrigerator until set.
Invert onto a flat surface; remove the foil and break into pieces.
Store, covered in an airtight container in refrigerator.
Note: You can skip the chocolate chips- it's still delicious.

This is an easy English Toffee recipe. My aunt used to make it every year for Christmas. 24 saltine crackers, unsalted tops
2 sticks butter (1 c.)
1 c. light brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nutsPreheat oven to 375 degrees. Line 9 x 13 inch pan with foil. Butter the foil. Arrange crackers right side up. Melt butter and sugar - boil 3 minutes; stirring. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour over crackers and spread evenly. Bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes. Sprinkle chips over top and when shiny and soft spread evenly and add nuts. When cool, cut into bars.

Ok- Jen posted while I was Googling the recipe. :D

Works with Matzoh, saltines and graham crackersEnjoy! * 4 - 6 Unsalted Matzohs
* 1 c Unsalted Margarine
* 1 c Brown Sugar, packed firm
* 6 oz Semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 1. Line a cookie sheet with foil and cover with baking parchment. Cover pan evenly with matzoh boards, using what you need and cutting pieces to fit spaces as evenly as possible.2. In a heavy saucepan, combine margarine and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 3 to 5 minutes, until sugar desolves. Remove from heat and pour over matzoh. Bake at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes, checking every few minutes to be sure mixture does not burn.3. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate bits. Let stand 5 minutes, then smear melted chocolate evenly. Chill in refrigerator until set. Makes 12 to 14 pieces, depending on size.
