I soooo am not good at this stuff. I know what I like when I see it, but to start with white walls and all this potential, I just don't know what to do.

We have a brand new house that we built well, now it's almost 2 yrs I guess. We haven't done any painting or real decorating yet cause I just don't know what style I like.

Are there any websites or anything that helps give ideas to ways to decorate or pick paint colors?

I can't afford to buy tons of magazines and sift through them all. None of my friends have any decorating magazines either.

Tomorrow we are going to go to Home Depot and Lowes and just grab every single swatch or layout handout things they have.

Behr paint has a great tool on their site...you pick your room and set up and then add colors (from their site or the #s of colors from the swatches).

LOVE IT!! Used it for our living room -- it's "Iced Tea" and "Cardboard" with a "Buttercream" ceiling -- YUM!

This is a pic of it before we added a rug and other small deco pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some popular color schemes for interior decorating?

Popular color schemes often include combinations like neutral tones with bold accents, monochromatic palettes, and complementary colors. For a timeless look, consider pairing soft grays with whites and pops of color like navy or mustard. Earthy tones such as terracotta and olive green are also trending for a warm, inviting atmosphere.

How can I make a small room look larger with paint?

To make a small room appear larger, use light colors such as soft whites, pastels, or light grays. These shades reflect light and create an airy feel. Additionally, painting the ceiling a lighter color than the walls can help draw the eye upward, enhancing the sense of space.

What are some tips for choosing paint finishes for different rooms?

When selecting paint finishes, consider the room's function. For high-traffic areas like hallways, an eggshell or satin finish is durable and easy to clean. In bathrooms and kitchens, opt for semi-gloss or gloss finishes for moisture resistance. For bedrooms and living rooms, a flat or matte finish can create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

How can I incorporate accent walls into my interior design?

Accent walls can add depth and interest to a room. Choose a wall that naturally draws attention, such as the one behind a bed or a sofa. Use a bold color or a patterned wallpaper to create the accent. Ensure the color complements the overall color scheme of the room for a cohesive look.

What are some DIY painting techniques to enhance my decor?

DIY painting techniques like sponging, stenciling, or ombre effects can add unique touches to your decor. For a textured look, try using a sponge to apply a second color over a base coat. Stenciling can create intricate designs on walls or furniture, while ombre effects can provide a gradient of color that adds visual interest.
