I'm so Upset! I Dropped My New Laptop

others might not be so sympathetic. I would call and tell them the truth. You never know- maybe they'll fix it.

ok so I finally got a laptop.. a really nice one for Christmas/birthday and forever present. Well I was trying to fax something and had to move both my printer and laptop to a table right by my desk.. well the usb cord is short I was using between the two. I went back to move the printer back to the desk and pulled the laptop right off the table :(:cry::cry: well it fell while being open and cracked the corner of the screen,, and there are a few color lines going up the side.. :( It seems to be working fine besides the crack, but it's going to cost a fortune to fix it. And of couse no insurance on it, I had my last laptop for 10 years and never broke it :( I hate myself for it and I'm so sad. I'm sick to my stomach about it and can't stop crying over it. I'm SOO incredibly mad at myself it's unbelieveable. Thanks for letting me vent, i'm so disgusted at myself and so sad.

You poor thing. You go ahead and cry and vent all you want. Then, once you're all cried out, remember that we all have accidents and forgive yourself.

I {{sort of}} know how you feel. I had had my VW beetle for about 6 months (still treating it with loving care, when I had a aerosol can of de-icer on the back seat. It was there for months, probably all winter. I didn't give it any thought until I went to move it when I said, "I guess I can put this away til next year" and lo and behold there was a black mark on my back seat. Basically it was like spray paint. Anything I did I could not fix it. I finally gave up.

The spot is still there, for me, I don't notice it any longer. For others they are like "I didn't do it".

Its amazing when YOU do something to YOUR item how guilty and upset you feel. I was in agony for weeks.

So I kind of know how you are feeling. Cheer up. It will get better. :)

Alot of items like laptops come with a manufacturer warranty that may cover it. That's too bad to hear!

Have you tried the Mr Clean Magic Eraser? It cleaned stuff off my leather seats that other things wouldn't.

I am sorry...I know how frustrating things like that can be.

I hope it's under warranty!

last year for Christmas I got a GPS... and I really really needed it! Then right about March I broke it. I didn't know it was in between some papers and stuff that I picked up and it went flying across the room. I thought I was going to throw up I was so upset about it. I was prepared to pay the $80ish to have it fixed but the company messed it up so bad I ended up not having to pay anything. As frustrating as it is, luckily it is only a "thing"

inform the company that it arrived damaged... rather than tell them you dropped it.
once you mention you dropped it.. void warranty..

That's not very honest.

I would call and tell them the truth. You never know- maybe they'll fix it.

There are some companies that offer warranties that will fix it no matter what. When my DH bought his camera he bought one like that. And he even asked speciically if he dropped it would it be replaced. The gy at the store said yes, so I would definitly check it out. Sorry to hear about your laptop

Since you weren't juggling it, I would consider the damage to have happened during normal use. It may be covered.

welllllllllllll........................... not covered under any warranty and no one has the screen in stock for a part.. not even HP! Either way it would cost more than half of the cost of the entire computer.. so I have to look at it and hope it doesn't get worse before I get a new one... ugh.. the joys of having a distracted mind these days..

Jess - call HP and see what it would cost to put the warranty on it now and what it would cover. We've done that for work before. It costs more than if you bought it up front, but cheaper than the repairs.

1. How can I clean my laptop after dropping it?

The best way to clean your laptop after dropping it is to first turn it off and unplug it. Then, use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe away any dirt or debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they can damage the surface of your laptop.

2. What should I do if my laptop won't turn on after dropping it?

If your laptop won't turn on after dropping it, it's important to first check for any physical damage. If there is no visible damage, try holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds to see if it will turn on. If it still won't turn on, it may be a sign of internal damage and you should bring it to a professional for further inspection.

3. How can I prevent dropping my laptop in the future?

To prevent dropping your laptop in the future, there are a few things you can do. First, invest in a protective case or sleeve for your laptop. Also, try to avoid using your laptop in areas where it could easily be knocked off a table or surface. Finally, always handle your laptop with care and make sure it is securely placed before walking away from it.

4. Will my laptop still be covered under warranty if I dropped it?

In most cases, accidental damage from dropping your laptop will not be covered under warranty. However, it's always best to check with the manufacturer or your specific warranty plan to see what is covered and what your options are for repair or replacement.

5. Can I still retrieve my data if my laptop was damaged from dropping it?

If your laptop was damaged from dropping it, there is still a chance to retrieve your data. Depending on the severity of the damage, a data recovery specialist may be able to retrieve your files. However, it's always best to regularly back up your important data to prevent loss in case of any accidents.
