The time has come for me to invest in a label maker, but I know nothing about them yet. I know there are those of you out there that love their label makers (I lurk far more than I post) and I am hoping you will keep me from getting a lemon. Please help me!:blushing:

Can you make labels from your computer using avery labels (or staples brand labels)? That is what I would recommend. If you're going to purchase a label maker (such as skinny tapes i.e. for file folders), it will get expensive because the replacement cartridge is a lot of money.

Depends I guess what you need labels for and how often you'd use it.

HTH!

I got a Brother labeler. It is quite fun to use!
The plain white labels don't cost too much. The fancier metallic ones do, though. Also you have to go to an office supply store or buy replacements on line.
I saw a different brand in Target in the office supplies section.

Those Avery labels....grrr...they always get out of alignment. Maybe it's my printer? But printer ink costs a lot, too. I think it's kind of a toss-up on the expense.

Actually we have a basic lexmark printer (about $39.99) and the two pack of ink at best buy is $34.99. Granted we do go thru a lot of ink...but I print the basics at home and go to Kinkos to print everything. I bring my own paper and away I go!!

So yes, it is a toss up!

Thanks guys!!!:)

I use a Dymo Label Writer at work and I love it. I want to get one for home. I make file folder labels, shipping labels, address labels and even labels for CD's.

You can get them at Office Depot.

I like my Brother label maker. I never thought of having one but at my one job we used it ALL the time to label folders, cabinets, you name it! I use mine around the house to make labels for DD's food stuff that gets sent to preschool (the label tape is washable and sticks to the containers even after hand washing!)... I like that I can restick the labels too but only on plastic containers. I find it's very convenient to use and doesn't tie me to the computer plus, as mentioned, the labels are water-resistant (not sure about proof) and you can get creative in labeling. I offered up my extension cord and power strip for a function and was afraid a label might be ignored, so I make up the label and just ejected a LOT of extra tape... then folded it over the actual cords and stuck it to itself to make a tag that labeled it and could NOT be ignored. :D
