I have a new host who just had TWINS six months ago and she said that she has NO ROOM for assembling orders. Completely understandable! So, despertae to have another show on my schedule, I suggested we just direct ship the orders to the guests. Considering everyone is aware of her situation, I don't think the guests would mind if I present it as helping out the host. Does anyone already do this and how do I explain it?
 
I think as a guest I would really hate to pay the high shipping charges just because the host didn't have room/time to deal with the orders. Maybe instead she could have a friend to co-host the show and have the orders shipped to the co-host. If not, maybe you could have it sent to you. I would hate to tell guests they were paying direct shipping charges of up to $14 when they could have been paying only $4. Her best friends may understand, but the average guest may place a smaller order due to the shipping charges. I hope whatever you decide to do works out well. Good luck!
 
the shipping is not really that high...i would kinda rather pay 2 extra dollar then to have to wait for my friend to get around to giving it to me. I did an out of the mox call a month after the show and the lady didnt have her stuff yet!
 
Ann why not have the show shipped to you and then you can short it out?
 
Did one last night!I just had a show last night 40 minutes from my home where a very busy business woman had told me from the get go that she would not have time to deliver items. At first I thought this was pretty weird, but after visiting with her and learning what her role is in her husband's business, I now understand.
I told her guests that they could have their products delivered straight to their door for only a few more dollars and it would relieve our host from having to drive all around to leave these items. They all agreed because they knew her so well and because they had the money to pay for it.
I don't know if it may cause a problem for others but if you explained it as if they shopped on ebay. They would pay for shipping on the actual weight but through UPS they get a great deal.
I once had a person order a whole cookware set and only pay $16 in shipping. I actually had already calculated the shipping in the computer before I went to the show to give them an idea of how much it would be.
I had another show where some friends lived far away so they did that special shipping. Explain the situation and having a co-host (friend or family member) who is willing to deliver gifts to friends at church, work, etc is a great idea!! I have delivered the gifts for a host of mine a couple of times. It shipped to me and since most of her guests lived by my house I delivered them for her. Hope you get some good ideas ANNE!!

I offered to have everything delivered to my house and that I would just bring it over all sorted out for her to meet up with people, but she said that some people would be coming a distance and she probably wouldn't get to see them any time soon. She explained that she has a very small home and has already outgrown it. I can only imagine their surprise when they were expecting one baby and wound up with 2!

Here's another thought: ask if one of her friends wants to be the co-host and get everything shipped to her. Give her the unlimited discount as a thank you! That way everyone woulndn't have to pay too much and you would make someone else happy!
 
I don't care how good of a friend I was, I wouldn't want to pay more than $6 on shipping. I think it could deter sales and I would give guests the option to have it direct shipped or delivered at some later date. They may choose to pick it up at the host's house rather than wait for her....Good luck.
 
I've had hosts have thier guests pick up their orders from her home. If she explained to them that she maybe couldn't or didn't have the time and asked them if they would mind? Then have it shipped to you, you could sort it for her and then she could just put it in the garage and out of the way perhaps?

This is a great example - I kick myself often when I order something and see just how much I have to fork over for shipping. Our direct ship costs are so low....

Given that there are guests who live a distance away, I'd encourage them to have it shipped directly, or if one could book a show close in and you deliver it to them (have the show shippped to your house).

Our shipping prices are very reasonable (I never paid any real attention to them, now I know), but I'd rather spend it in more product.

One thing I would not do at any show is EVER mention the word Ebay...in any way...it might give someone the idea 'hey, I'll go check out this on ebay by the way and see if I can save money on it.'

I don't really understand about her house being too small for a couple of boxes of PC stuff though??? If she can fit people in there for a show? But I'd understand trying to keep the munchkins out of it. AHHHH!!

I think its a combination of being overwhelmed with the babies, having nowhere to store everything, and getting it to everyone. I don't see what the problem is either, but its the situation I'm in.

I have never considered eBay a threat to my business. I have had only one lady ever tell me secretly, "Couldn't I just get this item through eBay and save money?"

And I honestly told her, well you have to consider that you have to bid on the item, which doesn't guarantee you will win. Second you have to pay outrageous shipping rates compared to my $4.00 no matter how much you order and then of course you have no warranty. Plus you don't get me to cook for you and help you with any questions you might have about your products.
She smiled and said "I didn't even think about that, that seems stupid for people to order from eBay now that you mentioned all that."

I mention eBay because their shipping rates are outrageous on certain items and of course if you want to secure it you have to pay extra for insurance and tracking. Not with PC.
Our shipping rates and products are GREAT!!!

As far as ebay. I noticed that people often end up paying MORE for the item than they would have buying through a consultant and with no guarantees I don't think it is worth it.
 
Anne, I did direct shipping for orders I took at a craft fair and it seemed to work fine. I just told them all it was a few dollars more but it comes straight to your door.

The host doesn't want me to ship it to me because she would still have to deliver it.

When my director talks about direct shipping, she says "its no more than if you ordered something off of the internet."
