Does anyone have some greek recipies? My host for the 22nd would like one.

Grecian Party SquaresThis is one of my favorite show recipes - the best part is you can cook the crust ahead when you get there - so the demo is just chopping and stirring! So quick & these are to die for. Good luck!

Does anyone have the recipe for this? I don't have All The Best yet.

Here ya go......One tip though....the sliced tomatoes look very nice on the pastry, but it is harder to cut. I found that chopping them is easier and it's still pretty.

The Meditterranean (sp) Chicken Cafe Salad is wonderful and it shows alot of products. It feeds alot of people and is relatively easy to prepare. Very, very yummy recipe. You might want her to take a look at to see if it is Greek enough for her.

1. What are some popular Greek recipes for gatherings?

Some popular Greek recipes for gatherings include spanakopita (spinach and feta pie), moussaka (eggplant and meat casserole), souvlaki (grilled meat skewers), and tzatziki (cucumber and yogurt dip).

2. Can you provide a recipe for spanakopita?

Yes, here is a simple spanakopita recipe:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion and cook until translucent.
  3. Add 2 pounds of chopped spinach and cook until wilted.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spinach mixture with 2 beaten eggs, 1 cup of crumbled feta cheese, 1/4 cup of chopped fresh dill, and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with olive oil. Layer 6 sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the dish, brushing each sheet with olive oil. Spread the spinach mixture on top, then cover with 6 more sheets of phyllo dough, again brushing each sheet with olive oil.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, until golden brown.

3. Is moussaka difficult to make?

Moussaka can be a bit time-consuming, but it is not necessarily difficult to make. It involves layering cooked eggplant, ground meat, and a tomato-based sauce, then topping it with a bechamel sauce and baking it in the oven. Here is a basic moussaka recipe:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook 1 pound of ground beef or lamb over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add 1 chopped onion and 2 cloves of minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
  4. Add 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1/2 cup of red wine, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. In a separate skillet, cook 1 sliced eggplant in olive oil until tender.
  6. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the eggplant, then half of the meat mixture. Repeat layers.
  7. In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Add 4 tablespoons of flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk and cook until thickened. Stir in 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese and 2 beaten eggs.
  8. Pour the sauce over the top of the moussaka. Bake for 45 minutes, until golden brown.

4. What is souvlaki and how is it typically served?

Souvlaki is a popular Greek dish consisting of grilled meat (usually chicken, pork, or lamb) on a skewer. It is often served as a sandwich, wrapped in pita bread with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, and other toppings. It can also be served as a platter with rice, vegetables, and a side of tzatziki.

5. How can I make authentic tzatziki at home?

To make authentic tzatziki, you will need 2 cups of Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of grated cucumber (squeezed to remove excess liquid), 1 clove of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste. Simply mix all of the ingredients together and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to blend. You can also add fresh herbs like dill or mint for extra flavor. Serve with pita bread, vegetables, or as a topping for souvlaki or gyros.
