COOL!!!!!!!!!!! I like the "mans" shirt better! Go for it, Janet!!! Have you seen the movie yet? It is worth getting a babysitter and paying full price for...and I don't say that about pretty much any movie Hollyweird puts out!

I can get the shirt "free" through Amazon because I have gift certificates from them as payment for my IT 'expertise'.

Unfortunately the movie isn't showing anyone even remotely close to me. But I plan on seeing it when I can.

I like the "man's" shirt better too. :)

Sammie is busy but I'll have her write. She wrote no less than 4 letters and lost them before they got to me!

I think I found one the other day but it was so outdated she tossed it when I gave it to her.

She has off piano tonight so I'll make her write after homework. :D

well, we went and saw it yesterday at 11 am while the kids were at school. I told him that I was taking him to the movies and to lunch. He was surprised by it all but we went. We sat down and the first thing he said was whoa, bad acting! I said "Please get past that and watch the movie for what it is" We did and I glanced at him a few times and saw tears in his eyes, I would say about 6-8 times. After the movie was over, he opened the car door for me and we went to lunch. He again, opened the door for me and my jaw was on the floor!!

I also went to a catalog show hosts house last night to close out her show ($849, yes, a CATALOG show!) and I got home and he had the kids lunches packed, all 3 of them!! I just can't believe it! I went to Wal Mart this morning and purchased the book. I'm going to do my first day as today. I went to the dry cleaners and picked up my dh's shirts for work and am cleaning the house. I LOVE this idea and I seriously can't stop telling people about the movie or thinking about it.

That is great Kristi! :)

I know! He just made the kids lunches AGAIN!!:eek: I'm going to buy this movie!

Kristi, DH did the same thing for me after the movie- he OPENED my car door. When he got around to the driver's side and got in I was blubbering and he said what's wrong? And I blubbered "You haven't done that since we were dating (15 years ago)...Thank you!" And then he started blubbering!

He's made dinner or at least gone to the store to get what was needed so I could start or finish supper when I got home, and he's cleaned the house- FedEx says the books and the marriage study will be at my house on Saturday! I cannot wait!

I told everyone at work about it and sent them links to the website and movie!!!

Yes, check Amazon, CBD (Christian Book Distributors) and others. It is out there.

CBD might be cheaper.

Yes, I looked online and it when it came to adding to my cart, it was sold out. I ran into Wal-Mart yesterday and they had 3 copies. I like a good challenge of finding things though!

They updated the website and someone I know is trying to get the movie to our area - yeah!

That's one of the reasons The Furry Guy and I wanted to see it in the theater. When sales are good for a film in limited release, it's likely to open in wider release. Ticket sales speak volumes!Hope it opens close to you soon, Janet. Considering both the surface topic (firefighters) and the true topic (marriage), I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  • #72
Add me to the list who watched this movie. DH and I went last night. I loved this movie and so did he! He said he wants to buy it when it comes out on DVD. It was so awesome. I want to get the book and also the bible study. I am hoping someone at church might be interested in doing the bible study, but since it'd be better as a couples study, it would probably have to be during the sunday school time. So we'll see.

DH and I had not been on a date for awhile. It was nice to get to go. Having three kids makes it hard because it can be hard to find someone to watch all three and we can't afford a baby sitter. My MIL ended watching two and one of my friend watched one. I was really glad we had the opportunity to do it. Everyone should see this movie.
God bless,
Amanda

WOW! Can I just say WOW!

That was an amazing movie. It's the type of movie, that when you leave, it goes with you. DH and I kept talking about different parts of it in the car on the drive home.
To be honest, DH had been ticking me off for a couple days before we went, so secretly, in my mind, I was thinking it was going to be good for him to see. I walked away from it thinking it was good for me to see. If you want to learn to love and appreciate your spouse all over again, or maybe for the first time, then you NEED to see this movie.

Plus - it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and there is enough action in it to make your man happy!

But as a note for Janet......I wouldn't take Sammie and Kyle. It's too intense for young children. There are some intense marital moments(fighting) that I know would really bother Micah (they bothered me - especially the first scene of the movie!), implied pornography use that is a significant story line, ....and, at least to me, there were some fire/rescue scenes that would have given him nightmares. YOU, Firefighter Lt. Janet, will have to let us know if the Fire/rescue scenes are true to life. They seemed pretty realistic to me.

Oh - and DH just emptied the dishwasher, and fed the cat. :)

Don't worry, it's reciprocated....I'm spending the entire day getting ready for a Birthday Party for him....:p

I don't even know how to word this question... would you recommend this movie for a struggling Jewish couple?

Thanks for the information Becky! I'm glad you loved it!
Our church is attempting to get a group together and a group to watch all the kids for us while we go. :)

I'll let you know on the fire scenes after I see it!

You know - I would recommend this movie to everyone. Dr. Phil did too! :)

Part of the storyline is about having a relationship with Jesus, and there are some scenes that take place in an outdoor chapel setting w/ a wooden cross - but the fundamentals of the movie, learning how to love and appreciate your spouse and put their needs before your own are universal. So, if it wouldn't offend you to see a cross, or listen to a father and son discuss Jesus - then by all means GO!

The theater was packed last night when we went, and I highly doubt that everyone in the audience was a Christian.

Thanks, it's playing very close to us and I think we could benefit from it. I am not sure if he is open to going to see it but I definitely am asking.

My DH and I went to see it last night and I LOVED it! It was such a beautiful movie and so touching on so many levels. What a great reminder of what marriage is intended to be, and CAN be, for anyone (even for someone you think could never be a good spouse). I have a wonderful husband, but it still spoke to me about how I can be a better wife to him and make our marriage even stronger.

People even clapped when the movie was over!

My boyfriend has been out of town a lot lately and so we haven't gotten a chance to go somewhere where it is playing to see it. However this morning i was on borders website and they had the book fireproof. So i reserved a copy at my local store and went and picked it up and it even has bonus features including a discussion group guide, the making of fireproof, production photos, and a special message from Alex & Stephen Kendrick. I am pretty sure I will spending the rest of the weekend reading it.

I really enjoyed it and enjoyed seeing a "clean" movie!!!! We laughed a lot and the group clapped in the theater at the end.I wanted to yell at Caleb for setting down his radio, taking his facepiece AND his coat off. You are no good to your victim if you aren't alive! (But that is the Health & Safety Liet. in me talking). Can't believe Kirk is one rank higher than me! ;)Seriously, it was a good movie, the train scenes were done VERY well (camera work) and we enjoyed it. I will be buying it when it comes out on DVD.I wish more of America would realize love isn't just an emotion. It is service, self-sacrifice and work. When two people do that for each other, great things happen. My DH didn't "do" anything different after the movie, but I did hear "I love you" twice as often in the last 12-20 hours. :D

Janet, I was curious what you thought, being a firelady and all. My daughter is dating a fireman again (this is the 2nd time around for them, after 4 years apart) and I watched the movie with a renewed interest. Are the issues that Caleb dealt with typical for Fireman? or just men in general?

I would say more men in general.

Sometimes firemen and policemen can get that "attitude". I would describe it more like the guy dancing in the mirror though, not like Caleb. More like the guy with the ego problem.

I think Caleb's issues are reflective of men in general. Men need our respect and need us to show that. They are more physical beings when it comes to their sexual side, not emotional like us. They need respect, they need to feel important and they need the physical part.

We need the touchy-feely stuff. We need someone to wash our dishes once in awhile, pick up the kids, tell us we are beautiful and loved.

I would recommend the book Love and Respect by Dr. Eggerich.

It really depends on the person though, our department does not generally have people that need their egos filled, but there is a rush of adrenaline if you do this day in and day out. Some guys do the job for that.

I loved the "hot sauce" part though! :)

...and if your daughter has any questions about her guy's job, just yell!

I wondered if you'd see breaches of procedure in the movie, Janet. The Furry Guy and I did a lot of talking about the commitment of marriage after seeing the movie. As a woman in her second marriage, I've seen what happens when you rely on feelings instead of making a choice. When The Furry Guy and I married, I had a much better understanding of what happens when you allow feelings to rule. Don't get me wrong. I love The Furry Guy, and most of the time I have loving feelings toward him. However, we've been married for 23 1/2 years, so there have been times when the feelings weren't there and we relied on the commitment to see us through. That commitment also made us work to get back to those feelings.

Yes, Rae, it is the "lead your heart" don't follow your heart that makes it work.As far as the stuff I saw, no biggie, I know DH would take off his coat too in some cirumstances to help save a child. I personally would have laid over her knowing how 1000 degree flames feel! ...and you can swing an axe in full gear! :) We'll chalk it up to them doing things differently in GA. ;)

A local church in my town has rented the theatre and is offering this movie to people for FREE!!! How cool is that?! I want to go but not sure if BF will go with me. I will have to sweet talk him about it.
