I have a stoneware large bar pan that I've used quite a bit. It was fine at first but now there's a tacky residue mostly in each corner but also around the edges (not in the middle). It's a greasy sticky residue and I even decided to use soap on it but it didn't help. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be something I did wrong? And any ideas on how to clean it? Or is this the way it gets seasoned?

No, it should not be tacky. Have you used an aerosol non-stick spray on it? That causes a tacky texture. Try using a bakin soda paste on it to see if that helps.

I think I know what might have happened! I let a friend borrow it a few hours before a show she hosted this month and I bet she used a non-stick spray! It just hit me right now that I haven't used it since she used it! I guess I figured she'd know how to use it because the reason she was hosting the show was to get some of the stoneware. She said she grew up using it in her mom's kitchen! Oh well! I'll go break out the baking soda!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clean a Stoneware Bar Pan with greasy residue?

To clean a Stoneware Bar Pan with greasy residue, first allow the pan to cool completely. Then, use a plastic scraper or a non-abrasive sponge to gently remove any stuck-on food. Rinse the pan with warm water and use a mild dish soap if necessary. Avoid soaking the pan, as it can absorb water and affect its seasoning.

Can I use soap on my Stoneware Bar Pan?

While it's best to avoid using soap on your Stoneware Bar Pan, a small amount of mild dish soap can be used if necessary to remove greasy residue. Just be sure to rinse it thoroughly to remove any soap residue before drying.

What should I do if the greasy residue is still stuck after cleaning?

If greasy residue remains after your initial cleaning, try soaking the pan in warm water for a short period (no more than 15-20 minutes) to loosen the residue. Then, use a plastic scraper or non-abrasive sponge to gently scrub the area. Repeat the process if needed.

Is it safe to put my Stoneware Bar Pan in the dishwasher?

It is not recommended to put your Stoneware Bar Pan in the dishwasher, as the high heat and harsh detergents can damage the stoneware. Hand washing is the best method to maintain the integrity and seasoning of the pan.

How can I prevent greasy residue from building up on my Stoneware Bar Pan?

To prevent greasy residue from building up, always use a small amount of oil or cooking spray when baking. Additionally, avoid cooking very greasy foods directly on the stoneware. Regular cleaning and proper seasoning will also help maintain its non-stick properties.
