I was just reading through the lists people are passing around. Many of them seem funny and very innocent, but I'm not so sure. I try to be careful with personal info, so I was a little unsure of listing my maiden name with my married name. I worried someone would have access to my kids names and their "mother's maiden name". I decided to list it. Then I started to see lists going around about motherhood. They were all questions about your first born. Again, it seems innocent-amoung friends, but look at the answers you give: your child's whole name, their birthdate, and their birth city. I chose not to participate. This last list though "Sunday Funday" really made me question the innocence of these lists.

Check it out:

On a lighter note than the "25 random things", try this. The directions are in parentheses. Erase my answers below the first line and type in your own.

This one goes a lot quicker - and it's cute! :)

1. YOUR SPY NAME (middle name and current street name)
Jay Dundee (Likes it!)

2. YOUR MOVIE STAR NAME (grandfather/mother on your dad's side and your favorite candy):
Ray Skor (Nordic movie star, apparently)

3. YOUR RAP NAME (first initial of first name and first 3,4 or 5 letters of your last name):
J-Jezi (Nope...not gonna do!)

4. YOUR GAMER TAG (a favorite color, a favorite animal)
Green Lion (OK, this works)

5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME (middle name, and city you were born in)
Jay Chicago (Also my porn star name...I think)

6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME (first three letters of your last name, last three letters of mother's maiden name, first three letters of your pet's name)
Jezmismai (Very gay indeed)

7. JEDI NAME (middle name spelled backwards, your mom's maiden name spelled backwards)
Yajhtims (HuH?)

8. PORN STAR NAME (first pet's name, the street you grew up on)
woody sand (WTF????)

9. SUPERHERO NAME: ("The", your favorite color and the automobile your dad drives)
The Green Rodeo (Great there are two of us!)

10. YOUR ACTION HERO NAME (first name of the main character in the last film you watched, last food you ate)
Daredevil Bacon (OK, at least it's got bacon in it!) LoL

(this is not mine and I changed some of the answers)

Many of the things you post in this list are security questions for info about your credit. Now, I have not heard that this is a problem, or that anyone has done this on purpose, but BE SAFE! Think about your answers before doing these lists. Do you think I am just being cynical, or is this a major personal securlty problem waiting to happen.

I've thought the same thing when I see theses on myspace (these things are ALWAYS going around on myspace, haven't seen them very often on facebook). It's one more reason why I only add people that I actually have met in person. And with these particular surveys, if I do decide to fill them out sometimes I just make up funny things in place of info I feel might be too personal :)

I've rec'd something similar to that but I don't have time to do it so I haven't. I didn't even think of it as a security thing. Thanks for posting.

These listings are notorious for getting information... many people do not see the correlation between the two... you should never fill these out because if you connect the dots, you will have given all your security info out...

Hi there,I completely understand your concern about posting personal information on social media, especially when it comes to your children's names and birthdates. As a Pampered Chef consultant, I always prioritize safety and security when it comes to my customers and their families. While these lists may seem innocent and fun, it's important to remember that anything we post online can potentially be accessed by anyone. I would recommend being cautious and selective about the information you choose to share, especially when it comes to your children and their personal details.Thank you for bringing this up and reminding everyone to be mindful of their online presence. Your safety and privacy are important to me, and I'm happy to hear that you chose not to participate in the "Sunday Funday" list. It's always better to be safe than sorry.Take care,

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Fun Lists?

Fun Lists are collections of seemingly harmless or entertaining information, such as favorite movies, hobbies, or personal preferences, often shared on social media or through casual conversations. While they may appear innocuous, they can inadvertently reveal personal details that could be exploited by malicious actors.

How can Fun Lists threaten personal security?

Fun Lists can threaten personal security by disclosing information that can be used for identity theft, social engineering, or targeted attacks. For example, sharing your favorite pet's name or your mother's maiden name can provide clues that make it easier for someone to guess your passwords or security questions.

What types of information are typically included in Fun Lists?

Fun Lists often include details such as favorite foods, travel destinations, hobbies, pets, and childhood memories. While these topics seem light-hearted, they can contain sensitive information that, when pieced together, can create a clearer picture of an individual's identity and personal life.

How can I protect myself when sharing Fun Lists?

To protect yourself, consider limiting the amount of personal information you share in Fun Lists. Avoid including specific names, dates, or locations that could be used to identify you. Additionally, review your privacy settings on social media platforms and be cautious about who can view your posts.

Are there any benefits to sharing Fun Lists despite the risks?

Yes, sharing Fun Lists can foster social connections and help people bond over shared interests. They can also serve as a fun way to engage with friends and family. However, it's important to balance these benefits with an awareness of potential security risks and to share information mindfully.
