Anyone Want to Research This One?

In summary, the customer was asking if writing a check for $8,314.25 would guarantee her the largest show in her cluster for the month. The customer also asked if she could become a consultant and earn everything for free. The spreadsheet includes information on products, counts, and subtotals.

One of my customers at one of my recent shows stumped me with a question that I never considered, because, in the overall scheme of things, it never seemed really important. Frankly, I still don't think it's too big a deal but it would make an interesting trivia answer.

"If I were to write you a check tonight," the customer asked, "For one of everything in the catalog, how big a check would I have to write?"

I dunno. Do any of you know?

I guess it would be a big check!! I can't begin to tell you what I have spent over the years. I have almost the whole catalog!!

If you guessed close, would she actually do it??? That would have been my first response!!

I doubt it. In fact, it was the husband of one couple at a couple's show.

I told him he would guarantee that I would have the biggest show for the month in my cluster. ;)

Okay, I just had to bite. $6241 for the F/W 05

Danelle: I'm glad I'm not the only nut-case who tried to figure that one out! Actually, it was a pretty interesting exercise! I may just do it again for the S/S catalog!

Even though I know the number now, I think the better response would be to tell them the total, but then say, "But I can show you how to earn it all for $90!"

Thanks!

That most certainly would have been the largest show in my cluster that month!

So how many products was that?

(Someone just asked that one in another thread, so I bumped this one in honor of that question.)

For Spring/Summer:

1 of everything = $8,314.25
That's 317 products.
96 (30.3%) $10 or less
73 (23.0%) $10.25-$15
39 (12.3%) $15.25-$20
38 (12.0%) $20.25-$30
29 (9.1%) $30.25-$40
11 (3.5%) $40.25-$50
18 (5.7%) $50.25-$100
13 (4.1%) $100.25 or more

These totals include the Mid-Season products, but not this year's HWC.

(I've got a spreadsheet I put together that has all this stuff in it. Go ahead and say it- Gillian already did in another thread- I'm a dork!)

Please note that more than half of the items in our catalog are $15 or less!!

Your'e crazy Ann!! But Thank you! :D

What's really crazy about my spreadsheet is that I stopped deleting things from it. I have a column that is for the last catalog something was included (so the coffee has F06). If that column is populated, it changes the color of the whole line to grey, so I can see that it's not a current item. But I can look things up if a customer asks about something, and tell them, "Sorry, we haven't carried that since Spring 2003."

(moves Ann to category "Beyond Geek")

Um, that's impressive work there, Ann.

(I doubt anyone at Microsoft knows how to do that.)

Yeah, but then I have to track things, and I'm not a very organized person. (Now Jill will disown me!)

I put the file into the attached Zip archive. It's an Excel spreadsheet, so I couldn't just upload it by itself.

Sheet one is the Well-stocked Kitchen list, but I think I missed a product or two, since my total isn't the same as HO's (I created a couple registries this morning and populated them with the list - so easy!).
Sheet two is the product list. It only includes things since I've been a consultant. Lines that are yellow are products that were in the catalog then and are still in it now. Grey are discontinued products.
Sheet three is the stats and a couple of graphs, in case there are any uber-nerds out there.

Ditto here (File) - Janet

Ann - Did you also put filters in it to do your counts/subtotals, etc?

You guys are so funny!!!

I was actually going to guess that the total would be something over 7,000 because about 2 years ago a gal in my hosp. cluster had a girl at a show that ordered 1 of almost everything in the catalog. She was a young gal just built a new house and had nothing to put in it. Now keep in mind this young gal had a ton of money (and not a clue as to what to do with it all) from being an heir to one of the casinos here in MN.

must be nice hugh?

.... and he usually catches ALL of these:p

The question was ------

how big a check would I have to write?

TKG should have simply answered :

2 3/4" x 6" ...... no 'bigger' than anyones else's check !! :D :D

Hey! Wait a minute! I hijacked my own thread? How did that happen?

  • #47
That's what happens when it's more than 1 page of replies.... you lose track of who started it.

Does your post (immediately above) count as a hijack of the rehijack of your own thread?
