I have the W-S pan, too. Got it on sale for like $15 once. :)

I was totally going to tell her to try that! ;)

My oldest son had a Thomas birthday when he turned 2 and I did his cake. I used a square cake pan, iced green with some grass, and a track running diagonally across the middle. Then I put some new Thomas Take Along trains on the tracks. It was super easy and quick to make and the trains were like an extra gift for him. Good luck!

Here's the train cake I made my son for his 5th birthday - it really wasn't that hard.

I also bought cake pans on ebay - used them - then sold them on ebay, sometimes for more than I bought it!

It's just a little loaf cake - I didn't hollow it, just backed up the trains to it and the track part of the cake is 2 horseshoe shaped cakes. I borrow lots of ideas from the website Search Results for " coolestbirthdaycakes.com " Also, see this thread: http://www.chefsuccess.com/f18/baking-today-25789/ many cheffers have posted thier cakes here.
