Click For Summary
For experienced cruisers dealing with motion sickness, the most effective remedies include the patch worn behind the ear, wristbands, and Bonine. Many users have found the patch to be the best option, despite its potential side effects, as it provides significant relief compared to other methods. This is for experienced cruisers, what do you think works the best for motion sickness? the patch worn behind the earn, the wristbands or just take the bonine? I know that several cruisers say that you don't even realize that you are moving, but for those of us that get queasy easily I want to be prepared.

Since I am the self proclaimed queen of motion sickness, I'll tell ya what I think. This will be my 5th cruise. I will be using the patch. Granted I get sick if I'm in a swimming pool too long, but that seems to be what works for me. I have tried the wrist bands, didn't notice anything. The patch does have some side effects, but it is much better than having to go to the hospital on the ship and get shots (ya I've been there!).

Well, Shana I am encouraged that the cruise must be awesome if you have gone thru all of that and still want to go! LOL
I'm thinking I'll probably go with the patch too! I can get woozy just walking on a deck sometimes. AND DH & I took a riverboat dinner cruise once and I got a little out of whack. Just dizzy and discombobulated:yuck:

You'll have a great time! And I think your better safe than sorry

I prefer chewable Bonine and the wristbands...

my kids and I all used the wrist bands----we never took them off---and we were all GOOD---

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most effective over-the-counter medications for motion sickness?

Some of the most effective over-the-counter medications for motion sickness include dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), meclizine (Bonine), and scopolamine patches. These medications can help prevent nausea and dizziness associated with motion sickness and are often recommended for experienced cruisers.

Are there any natural remedies for motion sickness that work?

Yes, several natural remedies can help alleviate motion sickness symptoms. Ginger is a popular option, available in forms such as ginger tea, ginger candies, or capsules. Peppermint tea and acupressure wristbands are also commonly used to help reduce nausea during travel.

How can I prepare for motion sickness before a cruise?

To prepare for motion sickness before a cruise, consider taking preventive medications as directed by a healthcare professional. Additionally, staying hydrated, eating light meals, and avoiding alcohol can help minimize symptoms. It's also advisable to choose a cabin in the middle of the ship where motion is felt less.

What should I do if I start feeling sick while on the cruise?

If you start feeling sick while on the cruise, find a stable area of the ship, such as the deck or a lounge, and focus on the horizon. Taking deep breaths and applying acupressure wristbands may help. If symptoms persist, consider taking an over-the-counter medication or consulting the ship's medical staff for assistance.

Is it safe to combine different motion sickness remedies?

While some people may safely combine different motion sickness remedies, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional before doing so. Mixing medications or remedies can sometimes lead to increased side effects or decreased effectiveness. Always follow recommended dosages and guidelines for each product.
