So I am thinking about switching from Cable to DSL...pros & cons of verizon dsl service please!!

We have been using verizon for years! My husband owns a web design business so we have 4 computers and sometimes they are all online at the same time. I give it a 9 the only thing that could make it better is if it were free.

I've used both and DSL is usually quite a bit slower then cable but it's also usually cheaper.

I use Verizon DSL. I know it's slower than Cable, but we don't watch shows online or do online gaming by in large, so it's not that big a deal for us. And at $11 a month (I think it's around $16 now) vs. $40 a month, well, it is well worth it!It actually cost us less to get Verizon DSL than the dial-up we had.My Wii uses our wireless, our laptop does, and two desktops - no problems. Well, the only problem was that we lost our Network Key (the password for allowing wireless to access the internet as a security feature)! I had to figure it out again just this week to hook up the Wii!

Thanks so much!! I received a flyer in the mail to get 6 mths free w/ a one year contract and then 21.99/mth after that. I currently pay $46.19/mth for cable and would LOVE to save the money!!

I am going to switch. If it is too troublesome for me to submit shows, I can go to my parents or to BF's to use their wireless! Thanks!!

I have DSL, it is faster than dial up and cheaper than what I was paying back then. I never had the cable due to the cost but know that DSL is slower than cable but basically for what I do I really can't complain and I have no problems with P3 at all with it.

My only problem is that I tend to lose connection sometimes when my landline is in use. It doesn't happen all of the time but it does happen. Where I lived before here it worked perfectly all of the time except when there were outages (rare). The phone company wants me to take everything apart and start over and I might need to pay for a service call. So I just do the best I can when I use it and one of these days I'll find out why this location isn't perfect like my old location (1/4 mile).

Chris, I have had absolutely no problems with P3, updates, downloads from CC... none of that. The only PC problem I have had is with slow loading for online training and videos.

Sometimes I wish I had a little bit of a problem, to give me a good excuse to go to Panera! their soufflés!

we had Verizon DSL and loved it! We moved back in Nov. and the home we came to was already set up for FIOS- the FIOS TV is awesome, but we've had nothing but trouble w/ the internet- I wish I could have my DSL back!! You should love it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Verizon DSL and how does it work?

Verizon DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a high-speed internet service that uses existing telephone lines to deliver internet connectivity. It works by splitting the phone line into two channels, allowing users to make phone calls while simultaneously accessing the internet.

What are the typical speeds offered by Verizon DSL?

Verizon DSL typically offers speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 15 Mbps, depending on the plan selected and the distance from the user's home to the nearest Verizon central office. Speeds may vary based on network congestion and other factors.

Is Verizon DSL a good option for streaming and gaming?

While Verizon DSL can support basic streaming and casual gaming, it may not be ideal for high-definition streaming or competitive gaming due to its limited speeds and potential latency issues. Users with higher bandwidth needs may want to consider fiber or cable internet options.

What equipment do I need to use Verizon DSL?

To use Verizon DSL, you will need a DSL modem or a modem/router combo device that is compatible with Verizon's service. Verizon may provide the modem for a rental fee, or you can purchase your own compatible device.

How can I troubleshoot common issues with Verizon DSL?

Common troubleshooting steps for Verizon DSL include checking the physical connections, restarting the modem, ensuring that filters are installed on phone lines, and running a speed test to check for connectivity issues. If problems persist, contacting Verizon customer support for assistance is recommended.
