i have searched everywhere on this forum to see if anyone else has had this problem and haven't found it. I have made the Strawberry-coconut Tres Leches Trifle 3 times each time it has been too runny, it all runs together. I even added extra pudding using a large box instead of a small box, it helped but didn't solve the issue. I'm using pound cake instead of ladyfingers, which are hard to find around here and the ones i did find cost almost $9 compared to the $1.50 pound cake I bought (onsale). Any suggestions I have another show tonight and the host really wanted this so I agreed.

Mine wasn't runny at all. You might check the threads at the bottom of the page about that particular trifle. Maybe one of the suggestions there will click for you.

One thing you must make sure is that you are buying the full one pound loaf of pound cake. They sneak in a smaller one in the grocery stores. That may be the problem.

okay, thanks for the input, I will take an extra pound cake with me tonight and add a little to the one the host bought.

Dear fellow chef,I am sorry to hear that you have been having trouble with the Strawberry-coconut Tres Leches Trifle. I can understand how frustrating it must be to have it turn out runny every time. I have made this recipe before and have not encountered this issue, so I am happy to share some tips with you.First, make sure that you are using full-fat canned coconut milk for the tres leches mixture. The fat content in the milk is what helps to thicken the mixture. Also, be sure to refrigerate the coconut milk for at least 24 hours before using it in the recipe.Secondly, when adding the pudding, be sure to use instant pudding mix and prepare it according to the package instructions. This will ensure that the pudding sets properly and helps to thicken the overall trifle.Lastly, when assembling the trifle, make sure to let the pound cake soak up the tres leches mixture for at least 30 minutes before adding the pudding and strawberries. This will help the cake to absorb the liquid and prevent it from becoming too runny.I hope these suggestions help and that your next batch of Strawberry-coconut Tres Leches Trifle turns out perfectly. Best of luck with your show tonight!Sincerely,

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes my Tres Leches trifle to be runny?

A runny Tres Leches trifle can be caused by several factors, including using too much liquid in the milk mixture, not allowing the cake to absorb enough of the milk, or using overly ripe strawberries that release excess juice. It's essential to balance the liquid ingredients and ensure the cake has enough time to soak up the milk mixture.

How can I thicken my runny Tres Leches trifle?

To thicken a runny Tres Leches trifle, you can try adding more whipped cream or a stabilizer like gelatin to the cream layer. Additionally, you can reduce the amount of milk mixture you use or allow the trifle to chill longer in the refrigerator, which may help it set up better.

Is it possible to salvage a runny Tres Leches trifle?

Yes, you can salvage a runny Tres Leches trifle by layering it with additional whipped cream or using a thicker layer of cake to absorb some of the excess liquid. You can also serve it in smaller portions with a spoonful of whipped cream on top to help balance the texture.

What should I do if my strawberries are too juicy?

If your strawberries are too juicy, you can drain some of the excess liquid before adding them to the trifle. Alternatively, you can toss the strawberries with a little sugar and let them sit for a few minutes to draw out the juice, then drain them before layering them in the trifle.

Can I prevent my Tres Leches trifle from becoming runny in the future?

To prevent a runny Tres Leches trifle in the future, ensure you measure your liquid ingredients accurately and allow the cake to soak for the right amount of time. Additionally, consider using a firmer cake recipe or reducing the amount of milk mixture if you find it consistently turns out too runny.
