I have a customer who would like something that she can store her spinach in. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't buy spinach:)

The only think we really have is the herb keeper. I don't know what quantities she buys though.

what about the berry spinner?

I buy fresh spinach and place it in a produce bag. Then I place that bag into another produce bag. I wash it and spin it, throw the inner bag away and put the clean spinach inside the clean bag. Then I store it in the vegetable drawer. It lasts longer than my lettuce ever lasts.

I thought that the salad spinner would probably help. I know it makes my lettuce last about twice as long as it did without spinning. Thanks for your suggestions!!!

I have a friend that keeps her lettuce fresh for 2 weeks in her large Chillzane Bowl. She says it works like a charm. Haven't tried it, but I wonder if is would also work for spinach.

One tip I've heard for lettuce (sorry, don't know much about spinach) is that when you store it in a bowl, put a saucer or small plate upside down in the bottom of the bowl. It greats an area for any condensation to "pool" in rather than your lettuce sitting in it.

I had a customer recently tell me that they keep spinach in one of the stainless steel bowls and it lasts long enough for just her and her husband to eat it all without having to throw it away first.

I have also heard that the stainless bowls keep fruit salad fresh for about a week - I haven't tried it out for myself yet though...

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to store fresh spinach to keep it fresh longer?

The best way to store fresh spinach is to keep it in the refrigerator in a breathable container. You can place it in a produce bag or a container lined with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Avoid washing it before storage, as moisture can lead to spoilage.

Can I freeze spinach for later use, and if so, how?

Yes, you can freeze spinach. First, wash and blanch the spinach in boiling water for about 2 minutes, then quickly transfer it to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, drain and pack the spinach in airtight freezer bags or containers, removing as much air as possible before sealing.

How long can I store fresh spinach in the refrigerator?

Fresh spinach can typically be stored in the refrigerator for about 5 to 7 days. To maximize its freshness, keep it in a crisper drawer and ensure it is dry and well-ventilated.

What are some signs that spinach has gone bad?

Signs that spinach has gone bad include wilting, yellowing leaves, a slimy texture, or an off smell. If you notice any of these signs, it's best to discard the spinach to avoid foodborne illness.

Are there any tips for storing cooked spinach?

Cooked spinach should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and can last for about 3 to 5 days. Make sure to cool it to room temperature before sealing it in the container to prevent condensation, which can lead to spoilage.
