Last time I made this, I used a homemade from scratch recipe..which was nice..but I don't have time for my 2 shows this week..so i'm gonna buy a store bought spice cake box..

Anyone used one particular brand, and had good results??

I use a vanilla cake mix and I add some Cinnamon Plus to it.

I just made this 2 days ago and used the Duncan Hines spice cake mix. It comes in a red box. It was delicious!

If you want another pumpkin trifle recipe to look at, here's the one I came up with this weekend. Pumpkin Trifle recipe I combined 2 other recipes to make it. I use the cinnamon plus where the recipe says pumpkin pie spice. This filled up my trifle bowl to the top, and was delicious!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of spice cake is best for a pumpkin trifle?

A moist and flavorful spice cake, preferably one that includes cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, works best for a pumpkin trifle. You can use a homemade recipe or a store-bought mix that highlights these warm spices.

Can I use a boxed spice cake mix for my pumpkin trifle?

Yes, using a boxed spice cake mix is a convenient option for your pumpkin trifle. Just follow the package instructions, and consider adding a bit of extra cinnamon or nutmeg to enhance the flavor.

How do I prepare the spice cake for the trifle?

Prepare the spice cake according to your chosen recipe or box instructions. Once baked, allow it to cool completely before cutting it into cubes. This will help the cake hold its shape when layered in the trifle.

Can I make the spice cake ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can bake the spice cake a day or two in advance. Just store it in an airtight container at room temperature to keep it fresh until you're ready to assemble your pumpkin trifle.

What other ingredients pair well with spice cake in a pumpkin trifle?

In addition to pumpkin puree and whipped cream, consider adding layers of cream cheese frosting, caramel sauce, or chopped nuts for added texture and flavor. These ingredients complement the spice cake beautifully.
