I made salmon on my medium sheet pan the other night and stuck it in my dishwasher. When I pulled it out of the dishwasher, it looks like someone poured acid on it. It has little corroded spots all over it. I know that we have had issues with the sheet pans, but this surprised me. I have an email in to HO about it to let them know what happened. Has anyone else had this happen or is it just me?

yes that is the issue with the pans

That's why there is a stop sell, they've already told us this from home office. Should be getting new one's by July 1.

yep, that's why.

I think it's all part of the same problem.

That happened to mine almost immediately. So when they announced the stop sell, I knew exactly why. Glad to see they are taking care of it. I actually thought it was something I did!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about the issue you experienced with your sheet pan. Sheet pan corrosion can happen for a variety of reasons, including exposure to acidic foods, high heat, and even certain dishwasher detergents. To prevent this from happening in the future, I recommend hand-washing your sheet pans with a gentle soap and avoiding harsh chemicals. You can also try lightly greasing your sheet pan before use to create a barrier between the food and the pan. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to our customer service team and they will be happy to assist you. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we hope you continue to enjoy using our products. Happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes corrosion on sheet pans?

Corrosion on sheet pans is primarily caused by exposure to moisture, acidic foods, and high temperatures. When metal surfaces are exposed to these elements, they can react chemically, leading to rust or other forms of corrosion. Additionally, improper cleaning methods, such as using abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemicals, can damage the protective coating on the pans, making them more susceptible to corrosion.

How can I prevent corrosion on my sheet pans?

To prevent corrosion on sheet pans, it is essential to keep them dry and store them in a moisture-free environment. Avoid using acidic ingredients like tomatoes or citrus directly on the pans, and always clean them with gentle, non-abrasive cleaners. After washing, thoroughly dry the pans with a soft cloth to eliminate any moisture that could lead to corrosion.

Are there specific materials that are less prone to corrosion?

Yes, certain materials are less prone to corrosion. Stainless steel and aluminum are commonly used for sheet pans due to their resistance to rust and corrosion. Non-stick coated pans also provide a protective layer that helps prevent corrosion, but care must be taken not to damage the coating during use or cleaning.

What should I do if my sheet pan has started to corrode?

If your sheet pan has started to corrode, you should stop using it immediately to prevent any potential health risks. For minor corrosion, you can try scrubbing the affected area with a mixture of baking soda and water, then rinse and dry thoroughly. However, if the corrosion is extensive or deep, it may be best to replace the pan to ensure safe cooking.

Can I restore a corroded sheet pan?

Restoring a corroded sheet pan is possible in some cases, especially if the corrosion is superficial. You can use a gentle abrasive like baking soda or a specialized metal cleaner to buff out the corrosion. After cleaning, make sure to re-season the pan if it is cast iron or non-stick. However, if the corrosion has compromised the integrity of the pan, it is safer to replace it.
