When coordinating a product return on something within the 30-day window, is it necessary to have the item in the original packaging?

My customer HATES the new mandoline and wants her money back. She has the old-style mandoline, and likes that plenty, but she just can't get enthused by the new model. Frankly, I hate the new mandoline, too, so I understand her frustration.

Yes, it appears that the Ultimate Mandoline is anything but. I've had at least 5 people in the past 90 days return it because they can't slice a normal sized onion with it. Who designed this thing? Did they think that only miniature onions get sliced?
 
The only thing I force myself to use it for is scalloped potatoes--works like a breeze for that. I have had many frustrating moments with it when doing anything else with it. Very sad that onions can't be sliced unless they are small or cut up some. I thought everyone else loved it. Glad I'm not alone.
 
I cut the onions in half and they're perfect!
