I've had carrot stains on mine too but they were gone after putting it through the dishwasher.

I have no idea if this would work for the US&G, but I was told that you can 'sunbleach' things like the cutting boards if they get stained - just leave them in a sunny spot for awhile

Vegetable oil will do the trick. Just rub a little on the stain, and it should come right off. This also works great for removing sticky residue from stickers or things like that.

Deluxe cheese grater tooI hope the vegatable oil will work on the cheese grater as well...I did carrots for the coconut shrimp cakes, washed in dishwasher, used soft scrub, the whole nine and still looks like an orange mess. Carrots are the worst for staining!

Same thing happened to me!I just got my SS kit not long ago and used my Cheese Grater to grate carrots and about had a stroke when my brand new Cheese Grater was stained! After taking a deep breath and telling my self not to freak out, I simply washed it really well and even though there was some staining left, I knew it was clean so I didn't worry about it. Next time I used it (for moz cheese) it disappeared! I know it sounds gross, but I washed the grater really well so I think it was fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of stains can carrots help remove from USG?

Carrots can be effective in removing light stains from USG (unfired gypsum) surfaces, particularly those caused by food spills, grease, or minor discoloration. Their natural enzymes can help break down certain types of stains.

How do I use carrots to remove stains from USG?

To use carrots for stain removal, first, peel and grate a fresh carrot. Apply the grated carrot directly onto the stained area and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. Afterward, gently scrub the area with a soft cloth or sponge and rinse with water.

Are there any precautions I should take when using carrots on USG?

Yes, it's important to test the carrot treatment on a small, inconspicuous area of the USG first to ensure it doesn't cause any damage or discoloration. Additionally, avoid using too much water, as excess moisture can weaken the USG material.

Can I use carrot juice instead of whole carrots for stain removal?

Yes, carrot juice can also be used for stain removal. Apply a small amount of carrot juice to the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it away with a damp cloth. However, ensure that the juice is fresh and free from additives.

How effective is carrot treatment compared to commercial stain removers?

Carrot treatment can be effective for light stains, but it may not be as powerful as commercial stain removers designed specifically for tough stains. For stubborn or deep-set stains, you may need to resort to specialized cleaning products.
