Possible Job/Promotion for Dh!!!

In summary, DH is applying for a job as Sales Manager at an Office Max store. The woman who called him this morning guarantees him a higher salary, plus bonus and commission each year. He's nervous about the interview, but is hopeful.

Okay so DH works as an assistant manager at Gamestop. He's been unhappy with where he is and doesn't have much, if any, chance for moving up in the company (once EB Games -- his original employer -- merged with Gamestop things just went downhill). Anyway he put his resume on some job listing websites (Monster.com, careerbuilder.com, etc). he's had a couple calls on jobs, but both were telemarketer type jobs and based solely on commission. He can't do that - he's the sole income for our household and we need X amt of pay to live on. This morning he gets a call from Office Max - the store in town wants him as their Sales Manager. he'd be just below the store manager, above the assistant manager. His only "sales" responsibilities would be him being the sales rep for the company to work out supply deals with other companies (like Office Max selling supplies to bigger companies, not just individuals -- sorry I can't think of the right wording right now). His other responsibilities would be hiring and training new associates. (one of the main things that is the store mgrs job at Gamestop but that he does) The woman guaranteed him higher pay than he's making now, plus he'd be salaried (right now he's hourly) and would get bonuses each year (nothing at Gamestop), plus would get commission on top of his salaried pay (probably for cementing supply deals with companies, etc). The woman called this morning and wants him to come in on Wednesday to interview with her and the district manager and they will give him an on-the-spot offer if they want to hire him. He is nervous b'c starting at a new job is scary. And he is wary of leaving the guys from Gamestop at Christmas (which I told him that he has to think of his family first and the guys that mattered would understand that - plus they would probably give him at least two weeks to finish working out at Gamestop, you know like 2 week's notice).. And he's worried about working under a woman boss. (guess as a whole we are quite the backbiters!) He's off talking to his dad about it now, but he sounds so excited about this job. I hope he goes in for the interview and really goes for it. This is what he's been waiting for and it's in a company where he has room to advance. Please pray! I'll keep y'all updated!! :balloon:

Family first, that's what I say!! Fingers crossed the interview goes well!!

New beginnings are always a little bit scary...I agree,I dont like change myself.

Amanda,
I really hope it all works out I totally understand what you are saying about making changes. We really want to mave back to UT and the only way to do that is to either get a job promotion or get a new job

Sounds like a great opportunity! Sure, change is scary but it's necessary... we're built to grow... with change we can grow in character, strength and such thing... without change we grow stagnant and complacent. I'll take strength over stagnation any day! Good luck to DH on his interview! Keep us posted!

It is scary. My husband has an interview tomorrow for another position at the company he currently works for...but it would mean relocating to Dallas. I LOVE Chicago and feel so at home here, I really don't want to move. And our eldest son has flatly said if we move he won't go with us. So I have really mixed feelings about this. But, he's so miserable in his current position, seems selfish of me to get in his way. And my job is portable!

I will pray for God's guidance for both of you.
