Well now, isn't this interesting? Completely irrelevant, but interesting.

GRAND JUNCTION -- Police say they've infiltrated a massage parlor involved in all sorts of illegal activities--from prostitution to racketeering.

KJCT NEWS 8 has learned the investigation may have been sparked while detectives investigated the case of missing Grand Junction woman Paige Birgfeld.

Paige has been missing for more than a year now... detectives found out she worked for an online escort service.

This finding may have led to the investigation of in other erotic services in Grand Junction.

58 year old Nan O'Reilly-- the owner of Fuji Oriental Therapy Massage on Horizon Dive-- faced a judge today on charges of racketeering, pimping, tax evasion, keeping a place of prostitution, and promoting sexual immorality.

The DA's Office says this investigation involves crimes that pose significant danger to the public.

"The investigation we conducted is much more involved than simple prostitution. It involves the potential for a lot of dangerous behavior, the potential for a lot of people to conceal what they're doing and have the resources and ability to stop people from reporting things," Deputy District Dan Rubenstein said.

Rubenstein says witnesses and business records will be key in this case, and will also be a challenge to get a hold of.

The investigation also involves other prostitution crimes like street walking and online escort services.

Before arresting Nan 'O'Reilly, police arrested suspected pimps and prostitutes in two other sting operations.

Police say the investigation continues, and there may be more arrests.

Interesting. I'm sure Paige had no connection to them, but interesting that the bust resulted from them trying to investigate her disappearance.

Hmmm...wonder if that business name is "common"! We had several "massage parlors" several years ago in Anderson County and it was a standing joke that everyone knew that these places were not "therapy centers" due to the name!

I just read the blog in your signature KG... I'm so saddened to read this story. There really are no words to describe anything going on in my head right now. I'm just in awe of it all. I feel so bad that the family has to live in question, especially those kids. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to my mom, or any of my family. I don't think I could keep on with my life like they have been so strong doing. I hope they get the closure they deserve.

yes, unfortunatly "massage parlor" is a common name for those places. infact, at my hubby's last duty staion there was one right off post. everyone knew military people weren't suposed to go near it. funny sidestory, this place called itself a day spa, i knew the owners of a legit day spa down the road from it. my friend told me they got a few calls a month from people mixing the 2 up. anyway, more than once she had people ask for a massage and she would go to book it, but, her hubby was the massage therapist in the family. so as soon as she would confirm their appointment and tell them i have you down for x time with Mark, thse people would would get a panicy sound and ask, "don't you have any girls?" that would tell them right off what the guys were looking for and they would just say "you want daisy's!" and hang up. they had good additude about it. someitmes they would mess with those people, too. but mostly it was just hanging up on those people.

anyway, it is good that something positive has come out of Paige's disappearace. i am sorry for the family though.

Andrea, thanks for reminding me of that link. I guess it's been on there so long that I forgot it was there. I think Ghost Writer did a pretty good, and fair, job of summing up the case without getting too maudlin. Some news sources went right for the prurient angle without getting to know her, her family, or any of us that were left behind. We all miss her, and we all want her case resolved.
