Whats a grilling plank?

It's a product we carried for a couple of seasons. Thin wood sheets meant to be used when grilling. The wood almost ignites and smokes, creating a smoky flavor on whatever it's under/wrapped around. Most grilling planks are actual planks, meant to be used more than once. Ours were thin so that they could be wrapped around kabobs, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are grilling planks and how do they work?

Grilling planks are thin pieces of wood, typically made from cedar, maple, or other hardwoods, that are soaked in water and then used on the grill. When heated, the planks create a smoky flavor that infuses into the food, making them ideal for grilling fish like Alaskan Halibut. The planks also help to keep the fish moist and prevent it from sticking to the grill.

Where can I find grilling planks for my Alaskan Halibut?

You can find grilling planks at many grocery stores, specialty cooking stores, or online retailers. Pampered Chef also offers a variety of grilling planks that are perfect for cooking fish and other meats. Check their website or contact a Pampered Chef consultant for more information on available options.

How do I prepare grilling planks before using them?

To prepare grilling planks, soak them in water for at least 1-2 hours before grilling. This helps to prevent the wood from burning and allows it to create steam, which adds moisture to the cooking process. You can also add flavor by soaking the planks in wine, beer, or other liquids.

Can I reuse grilling planks after using them once?

Grilling planks can sometimes be reused, but their lifespan depends on how well they held up during cooking. If the plank is charred or cracked, it's best to discard it. If it appears to be in good condition, you can soak it again and use it for another grilling session, but keep in mind that the flavor may not be as strong as the first use.

What are some tips for grilling Alaskan Halibut on a plank?

When grilling Alaskan Halibut on a plank, make sure to preheat your grill and place the soaked plank on the grill for a few minutes until it starts to smoke. Season the halibut with your favorite spices or marinades, and place it on the plank. Close the grill lid and cook until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. This method helps to enhance the flavor while keeping the fish moist.
