Does anyone live in Martinsburg, WV or near here? I currently live in WI and when I graduate in December, DH and I are considering moving south. DH could transfer to this city with the company he works at.

What are the thoughts of this area? What are some of the pros and cons of this area? Are there things to do?? What are your opinions?

TIA!

Nikki

Hey Nikki! I can't really help you out, but I was born and raised near Charleston, WV. I MISS WV SO BADLY IT HURTS SOMETIMES!!!!! I've never been to Martinsburg, but I can tell you that WV people (MOUNTAINEERS!!!) are very kind and good people, and our state is breathtaking. Good luck with your new adventure!!

As for things to do - one pro is that it's only about an hour and a half from DC! Tons of stuff to do there. Also, not too far from the MD and PA state lines which means more possibilities than where I grew up in WV - the boonies!

Never been to Martinsburg, but if you are moving "South", I'm gonna put in a plug for Cincinnati (can you guess where I'm from????). Lots of great places to live and work here AND most importantly, LEADERSHIP IS HERE IN JANUARY!!!! My cluster is SOOOOOOO excited - NO travel costs!!

Martinsburg is beautiful -- the whole state of West Virginia is amazing actually. Defintiely one of the most underrated places to see, in my opinion.

Martinsburg has been revitaling itself to restore to a more historic small town Main Street feel. Lots of tree lines streets, non chain local shops and restaurants. Old archtecture with a new feel around it. Good fusion. Very nice place. While it certainly has it's own pulse, it's also not too far from a lot of bigger fun and historic cities to visit as well like DC (2hrs), Baltimore 1 hr 45 min), Philly (3.5 hrs), and PITTSBURGH (3hrs) to name a few :)

There are a couple of websites about the area that might be helpful for you:

I have never lived there so I can't give you pros and cons but based on personal observation it seems like a pretty neat place that has a group of people focused on preserving their history but growing along side of it which is good... :)

Katie- we went on vacation to Cincinnati about 4 years ago and we loved it. Unfortunatly my DH workplace does not have an office there :(

I agree with Jenn

Martinsburg is a beautiful town, I live about 1 1/2 hours away - we visit down there about twice a year for different things

Oh well! At least in WV you are pretty close AND of course, you can come for Leadership!

Martinsburg isn't far from Charlestown and they have a horse track there and a casino. My husband used to work for the company that controlled the betting machines for the track. It is gorgeous there. He used to have to go down there every other month or so. The scenery is so peaceful.

I have a friend that lices in Martinsburg...she's a WI transfer. She LOVES it there, and never wants to come back to WI, except to visit.

I'll REALLY miss you if you leave, Nikki....
