I am planning on taking my husband to Confernence (Wave 3!). I know there are usually things for them to do. Is it enough that he won't be bored? What do they offer and what events can he attend with me?

Ok, I took my Mom last year and she had a good time. There is a Home Office tour that includes lunch and they get to meet and talk with Jay Christopher. There is also a golf outing. He can go to the executive banquet with you (this was Mom's favorite event) and he can go to all of the general sessions. Or if he is adventurous, you can sign him up to go to the classes you can't attend and he can take notes for you :)

Hmmm - I didn't think guests were allowed to go to any of the meetings /classes, except the general sessions????
I'd love to bring my DH - but someone has to stay home w/ DS!

Realize you have to pay for everything they do. Yes, your spouse can go to meetings, but they pay the registration fee just like consultants. There is the golf thing on the last day and the HO tour. My husband went last summer to keep the new baby during the day. If you do not purchase any of the the events for them they will be pretty bored. However there are plenty options if they want to go to classes and stuff. Send him to the classes that you won't be able to take.

I'm not taking mine. ;)I've already been accused of being a husband at conference.CTTOI, I might like to go to the golf thing, myself!

Thanks so far! I signed up for conf club and have them taking out the max, I figured there would be extras for him.

Trust me, there is all kinds of trouble for a husband to get into within walking distance of the hotels. For a few bucks, a cab can take him to even more places to get into trouble, depending what he likes to do. Museums, clubs, River North, Navy Pier or sightseeing tours by bus or boat. Since they play a lot of day games, if the Cubs are in town, it's a short El ride to Wrigley Field. The boat tour of Chicago is great!

My husband and daughter will be coming with me. We are making this a family vacation. We are leaving two days early, so we can sight see on the drive up there. My husband has been to Chicago many many many years ago. He said that he will find things for them to do while I am busy. We will then take another two days to get home and sight see some more. I (we) can't afford to take a vacation and me with conference so we decided to put them together so we will have both - me at conference and us on a family vacation. Best of both worlds.

I to would like some suggestions for things for young children, my daughter Lucy is 7 yr old. Any sugguestions on Hotel/Motel for a family on vacation near the conference?

Cubs? Don't you mean the REAL Chicago baseball team, the White Sox? Silly silly KG, who would want to go see the cubs lose?

my family always go with me. My husband charters a fishing boat & he & the kids spend 1 day (they leave at like 4 AM) fishing, they do other many other things too. ballgames, zoo, navy pier etc

There is a zoo right close to the conference hotels (close but not walking distance-I don't think). It is a FREE zoo. Then the botanical gardens are right next door to that! There is so much to do in Chicago. Too many places to eat!! Your family will have a good time. Be sure to go to the beach! Can you believe that!! A beach in the city! You guys will have fun!

My husband has come to conference with me the last two years. he loves to travel and sight-see so he goes off on his own all day and comes back for when I am free to join him for dinner or shopping or what-not. He does the museums, takes in a ball-game...eats his way through the city - LOL

Don't forget about the aquarium. We went last year and it was a ball.

Oh and the Architechtural Boat Tour!

Teresa, I'm not sure about the hotel (the Sheraton and Hilton, which are both conference hotels, are in downtown Chicago, so either of those should be fine), but I do know of some activities for your 7 year old. I'm about an hour and a half away from Chicago, and my 6 1/2 year old daughter and I take an annual train trip to Chicago. There's lots of shopping on Michigan Ave. - there's an American Girl store that my daughter loves to visit. There's a Hershey store with a bakery counter right by it. The Shedd Aquarium is definitely a place I would recommend. There's also the Museum of Science and Industry and other museums as well. Then there's the Navy Pier, which has a mini amusement park on it (I recommend the giant Ferris Wheel). She won't be bored!

Sorry - Melissa caught the aquarium before I could post.:D

My husband went last year. He had a great time at some of the workshops (I paid his conference fee). Plus, he had fun at the warehouse (didn't win the shopping spree). In additon, he roamed around Chicago on his own when I was in meetings he couldn't attend. It was a real boost. He got excited about the new products, etc. when he saw things first-hand. Anne, if your husband needs someone to "pal" around with, my husband would be glad to do it!

1) The Cubs usually play during the day, so it's an activity for him while you're busy.

2) Would you let someone...nah, I'm not gonna say that one.

3) Why would anyone want to go watch the Junior Circuit when there's a team in town with pitchers who actually have to bat?

:p
