(Acidulated is commonly used in cooking manuals, etc. to indicate that an acid has been added.)
Cromulent is a made up word from The Simpsons, and was used in the same context, to mean "valid." (I'm a Simpson's fiend. My DH and I will occasionally have entire conversations that are nothing but quotes from the show.)
Yes, Lemon Lime Soda can be effective in keeping apples fresh during demos. The carbonation and acidity in the soda help to slow down the oxidation process that causes apples to brown.
The citric acid and sugars in Lemon Lime Soda create an environment that inhibits the enzymes responsible for browning. This helps maintain the apples' vibrant color and crisp texture during your demonstration.
While Lemon Lime Soda is popular for this purpose due to its acidity and flavor, other clear sodas with similar properties may also work. However, avoid dark sodas, as they may alter the appearance and taste of the apples.
Apples can stay fresh for several hours when submerged in Lemon Lime Soda. For best results, try to use them within a few hours of preparation to ensure optimal freshness during your demo.
One downside is that the soda can add sweetness to the apples, which may not be desirable for all recipes or presentations. Additionally, the carbonation may cause the apples to become slightly fizzy, which some people might find unappealing.
