How much in advance (and how do you store them) can you make the chips? I want to bring this duo to my son's birthday party at the farm...

Apples Turning BrownI use Fruit Fresh on all my fruits that will turn brown. You can find this in the grocery store.:)

Susan, I would say you could make the chips a couple days in advance-just keep them in a ziploc bag.
I made this recipe last night-huge hit...it's my favorite recipe to do for summer shows. I make the chips at home, the salsa at the show. Yum-o!:D

Where do I find the Apple Berry Salsa Recipe??

Thanks Susan!!What a great recipe for summer!

Do you ladies happen to know which cookbook this is in? Thanks!

I know it was in Classics. It's also in All the Best.

This is one of my all-time fav's and the cinnamon-chips are the best!!! A little time consuming if you make a bunch of them (like I always have to), but wonderful!! I tend to double the fruit salsa and then freeze part of it so I can have it ready when ever the mood hits :) and I've never really thought about the apples turning brown, because you've got the acidity from the orange that will help with that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does lemon juice prevent apples from turning brown in Apple Berry Salsa?

Lemon juice contains citric acid, which helps to slow down the oxidation process that causes apples to brown. By coating the apple pieces with lemon juice, you create a barrier that protects them from exposure to oxygen.

Can I use other citrus juices to prevent browning in Apple Berry Salsa?

Yes, other citrus juices like lime or orange juice can also be effective in preventing browning. They contain similar acids that inhibit oxidation, so feel free to experiment with different flavors!

Is there a way to prevent browning without using citrus juice?

Yes, you can use vinegar or a saltwater solution as alternatives. Soaking the apple pieces in a mixture of water and vinegar or salt can help reduce browning, though it may alter the flavor slightly.

How long can I keep the Apple Berry Salsa before the apples start to brown?

If properly treated with lemon juice or another acid, the apples can stay fresh for about 1 to 2 hours at room temperature. If refrigerated, they may last longer, but it's best to consume the salsa within a day for optimal freshness.

What other ingredients can I add to Apple Berry Salsa to enhance flavor and freshness?

Adding ingredients like chopped mint, jalapeños for heat, or a splash of honey can enhance the flavor of your Apple Berry Salsa. Additionally, using fresh berries will not only add flavor but also contribute to the overall freshness of the dish.
