This isn't necessarily a Pamp Chef question.....I just know that there are many of you out there who are very talented when it comes to food! My daughter is having a Harvest Festival at her school TOMORROW and I need to bring a veggie platter. We are supposed to stick to the "Harvest" theme and be introducing new foods to the kids. (fourth graders) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Did you commit to the veggie platter? The Harvest Chicken salad is fabulous!!!!

Just throwing ideas out here....

Put your dip in a a hollowed out small pumpkin?

If the pumpkin dip wasn't so sweet, I would suggest that. But maybe have that dip with apple wedges. Here's the pumpkin dip recipe..

Pumpkin Dip

3/4 cup milk
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 small package of instant butterscotch pudding
Mix together

add 1 15 oz can solid pumpkin
1 8 0z. Cool Whip---don't use other brand
Mix together

Dip using Gram Stix
I also add 1 tsp of the cinnamon mix (what I think of as pumpkin pie spice) to the recipe.

Has anyone heard of a acorn squash dip recipe?? I have an eggplant spread, but I doubt that 4th graders are going to go for that.

How about sweet potato sticks as dippers?? Could also use jimica (that is not even close to being spelled corectly.. sorry) as dippers, carrots .... all cut with the crinkle cutter.

Let us know what you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some fun veggie platter ideas for a Harvest Festival?

For a Harvest Festival, consider creating a colorful veggie platter with a variety of seasonal vegetables. You can include carrots, celery sticks, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper strips, and cucumber slices. Arrange them in the shape of a pumpkin or a fall leaf for a festive touch. Adding a dip like ranch or hummus in the center can make it more appealing to fourth graders.

How can I make the veggie platter appealing to fourth graders?

To make the veggie platter appealing, try using cookie cutters to create fun shapes out of vegetables. For example, you can cut cucumbers and bell peppers into stars or hearts. Additionally, consider using a colorful dip, like beet hummus or guacamole, to attract kids' attention. Presenting the platter on a bright, themed plate can also enhance its visual appeal.

What dips can I include with the veggie platter?

Some great dip options for a veggie platter include ranch dressing, hummus, guacamole, tzatziki, or a yogurt-based dip. You can also make a fun, colorful dip by mixing cream cheese with herbs or spices. Offering a variety of dips can cater to different tastes and encourage kids to try more vegetables.

How can I involve fourth graders in making the veggie platter?

Involve fourth graders by allowing them to help wash and prepare the vegetables. You can set up a "build your own veggie platter" station where they can choose their favorite veggies and arrange them on a platter. This hands-on activity not only makes them more excited about eating vegetables but also teaches them about healthy eating.

Are there any allergy considerations for the veggie platter?

Yes, it's important to consider allergies when preparing a veggie platter. Common allergens include nuts, dairy, and certain dips. Make sure to label all dips and ingredients clearly. You can also provide a few allergy-friendly options, such as a dairy-free dip or ensuring that all vegetables are washed thoroughly to avoid cross-contamination.
