I made the Peanut Butter Cup triffle recipe this week (thanks, Janet!) It was the first time anything other than a salad had been served in the bowl.

Is it OK to use metal utensils in this bowl? I'm a bit skittish. I don't want to scratch it ...

I have used our older stainless serving spoon...and now our new serving spoon with no problems. If it's a really THIN spoon that you feel may scratch the glass, I wouldn't use it.

I've been planning to use the new jeweled serving pieces. However, up til now I have used the plastic ones we had with our Collapsible bowl set this summer, and the former stainless ones that really looked elegant. I sure would appreciate hearing is anyone learns that the new ones are not safe. I kind of thought it was the perfect solution to "how to get things out of the Trifle Bowl".

Note: I used the Trifle Bowl for a rainbow veggie salad this week. It was full to the
brim and we decided, after everyone admired its beauty to put our large square bowl
on top and turn the trifle bowl upside down to dump it out and just toss the ingredients
for easier serving. Then the beaded set was not an issue.

I was thinking of using the new Jeweled serving pieces.

I use the Bamboo spoons - love them!

I use the large mix and scrape. It scoops pretty good.

I've been using the green outdoor plastic ones. I also have used the nylon spoon from the set.

I use the small size cooks Tool spoon. It is perfect.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trifle bowl and how is it used?

A trifle bowl is a large, typically glass bowl used for serving layered desserts, salads, or other dishes. Its design allows for beautiful presentation, showcasing the layers of ingredients. It's commonly used for making trifles, which are desserts made with layers of cake, custard, fruit, and whipped cream.

How do I properly layer ingredients in a trifle bowl?

To properly layer ingredients in a trifle bowl, start with a base layer, such as cake or cookies, followed by a layer of custard or pudding. Next, add a layer of fruit, then repeat the process until the bowl is filled. Aim for at least three layers to create a visually appealing dessert.

What is the best way to serve from a trifle bowl?

The best way to serve from a trifle bowl is to use a large serving spoon or a trifle server. Start from the bottom and scoop out a portion that includes all the layers for a balanced serving. This ensures that each guest gets a taste of all the delicious components.

How can I prevent the layers from mixing when serving?

To prevent the layers from mixing when serving, use a gentle scooping motion and try to keep the spoon at an angle. This allows you to lift out a portion without disturbing the layers too much. Additionally, chilling the trifle before serving can help the layers set better.

Can I make a trifle ahead of time?

Yes, you can make a trifle ahead of time! In fact, making it a day in advance can enhance the flavors as they meld together. Just be sure to cover it tightly with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out or absorbing odors from the refrigerator.
