I have the rice cooker, but can't remember how much rice : water. Then how long to cook in micro?

Please remind me. Thanks.

I use the rice cooker plus at least 2 times a week:

Long grained white rice:

1 cup rice to 2 cups liquid.

9 cup capacity so you can do 3 cups of raw rice and 6 cups of water.

5 minutes on high, 15 minutes on medium.

Every microwave is a bit different so adjust accordingly but this usually works.

Follow the directions for microwave cooking on the package of the rice (or whatever you are choosing to cook in the rice cooker).

has anyone used it for brown rice? My SIL has it, and said that when she goes by the directions on the Use that it doesnt cook all the way... hmm?

The use and care with the cooker is for white rice. Brown takes a LOT longer to cook. She should use the directions on the rice.

ok thanks ann!

Just follow the microwave directions on the side of the box. For a family of 4 it takes me only 10 minutes with minute rice.

Just chiming in with chefann - brown rice takes longer to cook than white rice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ideal rice-to-water ratio for cooking rice in the microwave?

The ideal rice-to-water ratio for cooking rice in the microwave is typically 1 part rice to 2 parts water. For example, if you are using 1 cup of rice, you should add 2 cups of water.

How long should I cook rice in the microwave?

Cooking time can vary depending on the type of rice and the wattage of your microwave. Generally, white rice takes about 10-15 minutes, while brown rice may require 20-25 minutes. It's best to start checking for doneness at the lower end of the time range.

What should I do if I forgot the rice-to-water ratio?

If you forgot the rice-to-water ratio, a good rule of thumb is to use double the amount of water compared to rice. If you have already added the rice without measuring, you can estimate the water needed by using a similar ratio based on the amount of rice you have.

Can I use a different water-to-rice ratio for different types of rice?

Yes, different types of rice may require different water-to-rice ratios. For example, jasmine rice typically uses a 1:1.5 ratio, while brown rice often needs a 1:2.5 ratio. Always check the packaging for specific instructions.

What should I do if my rice is undercooked after the recommended cook time?

If your rice is undercooked after the recommended cook time, you can add a little more water (about 1/4 cup) and return it to the microwave for an additional 2-5 minutes. Check for doneness frequently to avoid overcooking.
