What software do you all use for antivirus and firewall??? My subscription is ending and I am looking at getting a different product. I currently use Norton but always download the upgrades. I have been having problems in the past if I have to reinstall something so am looking to either buy them with the 2008 version that has a disk or get something totally different. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance!

I have comcast and they provide Macafee for free. So far so good. The last few years I bought Norton...

Norton is a royal pain in the behind!!!!I use AVG - it is free and works great.

AVG for me! And like she said, it's free :D

I have Norton 360. Tech Support was GREAT helping me to set it up on both computers. Never any problems!

My husband owns his own computer business. He puts AVG on all his clients computers. AVG keeps the virus away that the "big guys" you pay for can't.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a firewall and how does it work?

A firewall is a security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. It acts as a barrier between a trusted internal network and untrusted external networks, such as the internet, by allowing or blocking data packets based on the rules set by the user or administrator.

What is the difference between hardware and software firewalls?

Hardware firewalls are physical devices that are placed between a network and its gateway, providing a layer of protection for all devices on the network. Software firewalls, on the other hand, are applications installed on individual devices that monitor and control traffic for that specific device. Both types of firewalls serve to protect against unauthorized access and threats.

Do I need both a firewall and antivirus protection?

Yes, it is recommended to use both a firewall and antivirus protection for comprehensive security. A firewall helps prevent unauthorized access to your network and devices, while antivirus software detects and removes malware and other malicious software. Together, they provide a multi-layered defense against various cyber threats.

How often should I update my firewall and antivirus software?

It is important to regularly update both your firewall and antivirus software to ensure they have the latest security patches and threat definitions. Ideally, you should enable automatic updates for both, but if that’s not possible, check for updates at least once a week to maintain optimal protection.

Can a firewall block legitimate traffic?

Yes, a firewall can sometimes block legitimate traffic if it mistakenly identifies it as a threat based on its rules. This is known as a false positive. To minimize this issue, users can adjust the firewall settings or create exceptions for specific applications or services that are safe but may be flagged by the firewall.
