I have a recipe for a dump cake. I'm using Spice and Apple Filling. The recipe says to put 1/2 the cake mix in the DCB. I just want to be sure that "cake MIX" means you are not making the batter as the box says and then putting it in the DCB.

Does anyone know?

Thanks!
Shari

Cake mix in every other recipe I've found means just the powder. It would say in the directions "Make according to package directions"... like it does for Rice or other components of a larger recipe. I'm not familiar with this particular recipe, but I would say to an almost absolute certainty that they mean the powder with no additional ingredients (other than the rest of the recipe).

That's right, do not mix up the ingredient that the box says--just use the recipe.

Thank you!!

And do you need to use the DC for the Dump Cake recipe or can you use other pieces of stoneware?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dump cake?

A dump cake is a simple dessert that involves "dumping" ingredients into a baking dish without the need for extensive mixing or preparation. Typically, it consists of fruit, a cake mix, and butter, creating a delicious and easy-to-make treat.

Is cake mix required to make a dump cake?

No, cake mix is not strictly required to make a dump cake. While traditional recipes often call for cake mix as a convenient ingredient, you can substitute it with homemade cake batter or other alternatives if you prefer a from-scratch approach.

Can I use other types of mixes instead of cake mix?

Yes, you can use other types of mixes, such as brownie mix or cookie mix, to create different flavor profiles for your dump cake. This allows for creativity and customization in your dessert-making.

What are some alternatives to cake mix for a dump cake?

Alternatives to cake mix include homemade cake batter, pancake mix, or even crushed cookies. You can also experiment with different flavor combinations by using flavored gelatin or pudding mixes.

Do I need to adjust baking time if I don't use cake mix?

Yes, if you use an alternative to cake mix, you may need to adjust the baking time. Keep an eye on the cake as it bakes and perform a toothpick test to ensure it is fully cooked, as different ingredients can affect the baking duration.
