So I decided to bake some cookies for the first time on my bar pan. I wasn't thinking and for some reason, I used wax paper in the oven instead of parchment paper. I didn't realized what I did until after my 3rd batch and my bar pan started smoking. I think I might have ruined my pan. What do you all think?

Wash it well with really hot water. It should be fine.

I had a host do this just about 2 weeks ago, but it was with bacon on the bar pan. I emailed test kitchens and they came back with the standard "baking soda" answer. She tried it and it didn't work. She tried hot water, didn't work. My suggestion was this (after having a spilt candle on my carpeting): use a warm iron and a paper bag. You put the paper bag down over the "wax" and put the iron over the paper bag and the wax softens and sticks to the bag. It worked great on my carpet and her stone!

Becky, thats a great way to put it. I'm going to blame it on the kids movie I was watching and totally getting into while doing it, but shhhh don't tell anyone the kids weren't home when I was watching one of their movies! LOL

LOL - My DH and I always pre-view the newest kids movies before we let the kids watch them. We do this to see if there is any questionable material - really, honest. We aren't watching them because we like too - yeah right. LOL

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Bar Pan and how is it used?

A Bar Pan is a versatile baking dish from Pampered Chef designed for baking, roasting, and serving. It is made from high-quality stoneware that retains heat evenly, making it ideal for baking cookies, brownies, and even casseroles. Proper usage includes preheating the pan and avoiding drastic temperature changes to maintain its integrity.

What common mistakes can damage my Bar Pan?

Common mistakes that can damage your Bar Pan include using metal utensils that can scratch the surface, exposing it to extreme temperature changes (like placing a hot pan in cold water), or using it in the microwave if it's not microwave-safe. Additionally, using harsh cleaning agents can also harm the surface of the pan.

How can I tell if my Bar Pan is damaged?

You can check for damage by inspecting the surface for cracks, chips, or discoloration. If the pan has developed any unusual smells or if food begins to stick more than usual, it may indicate that the pan has been compromised. A properly maintained Bar Pan should have a smooth, even surface and retain its non-stick properties.

What should I do if I think I’ve damaged my Bar Pan?

If you suspect that your Bar Pan is damaged, stop using it immediately to prevent further issues. Clean it gently with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. If there are visible cracks or chips, it’s best to discontinue use and consider replacing it. Pampered Chef offers a warranty, so check if your pan is still covered.

Can I still use my Bar Pan if it has minor scratches?

Minor scratches on your Bar Pan typically do not affect its performance, but they can lead to food sticking over time. If the scratches are shallow and the pan is otherwise in good condition, you can continue to use it. However, be cautious with metal utensils and consider switching to silicone or wooden tools to prevent further damage.
