when people give you their email to be added to your newsletter group, what do you do with people who repeatedly come back as unable to deliver the email? i got a stack of leads at my last 2 boothes and specifically told everyone "if you are interested, give me your email for my newsletter". i thought i had made it clear that it wasn't a requirement. so why would they purposely give me bad emails? so, should i try calling or should i cuyt my losses?

Sometimes I have some come back due to my entering it in wrong. Did you double check them? Or sometimes people wrote a l and I can't tell if it's a 1 or an "l", for example. Or 5 vs. an "S". If they provide a phone number, you could call and say "Hi! This is xxx, I met you at xxx. I was just wondering if you were still interested in receiving my monthly e-mail newsletter?" Then if they say yes, you can ask for the address (and hope it'll clear things up for you).

Are you using the PWS emails? I've heard some people have trouble with those bouncing back more often than just email from your own email provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my newsletter emails are bouncing?

If your newsletter emails are bouncing, first check the bounce message to determine the reason. Common reasons include invalid email addresses, full inboxes, or server issues. Clean your email list by removing invalid addresses and consider reaching out to subscribers with full inboxes to encourage them to clear space.

How can I prevent my emails from bouncing in the future?

To prevent future bounces, regularly clean your email list by removing inactive or invalid addresses. Use double opt-in methods for new subscribers to ensure their email addresses are valid. Additionally, monitor engagement metrics to identify and remove subscribers who consistently do not open your emails.

What is the difference between a hard bounce and a soft bounce?

A hard bounce indicates a permanent issue with the email address, such as it being invalid or non-existent. A soft bounce, on the other hand, is a temporary issue, such as a full inbox or a server problem. It's important to handle each type differently: remove hard bounces from your list and monitor soft bounces for potential follow-up.

How often should I clean my email list?

It's recommended to clean your email list at least once every six months. However, if you notice a high bounce rate or low engagement, you may want to clean your list more frequently. Regular maintenance helps improve deliverability and engagement rates.

What tools can I use to manage bounced emails?

Many email marketing platforms, such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and Sendinblue, offer built-in tools to manage bounced emails. These tools can automatically categorize bounces, allowing you to easily identify and remove invalid addresses. Additionally, consider using third-party services for email verification to maintain a clean list.
