The discussion centers on budgeting for attending a conference in 2008, with key expenses outlined. Registration costs $200, while hotel accommodations can be approximately $50 per night when sharing with four people. Attendees should budget for meals, with one dinner and one lunch not included, and consider additional spending for snacks and drinks. Travel costs vary, with an average budget of $200 suggested for airfare or driving expenses.
PREREQUISITESIndividuals planning to attend conferences, event coordinators, and anyone interested in effective budgeting for travel and accommodations.
Another expense is travel. The cost depends on where you live and the deal you can find on airfare or if you can drive. I budget about $200 for that.DebbieJ said:Registration is $200 next year
Hotel depends on how many you put in a room. If you put 4 in a room, it's ~$50 a night
Food--you'll need money for one dinner on the first day and lunch on the last day, the rest of the meals are included. Depending on how early you arrive or how late you leave, you may need more.
You may want extra spending money for drinks and snacks in between or to buy from the licensed vendors and speakers and paperwork.
I would DEFINITELY register for Conference Club on CC (if it's available yet). Also keep in mind we can usually earn money off conference through a consultant promotion in January.
You're correct. But many people aren't as disciplined, so setting it aside, even without interest, is still a good idea.sfdavis918 said:What is the benefit of conference club. HO just takes money out of our commission and sets it aside right? No interest is earned on the money, is it? For someone who is good at saving money for things, is there really any benefit?

Where in California are you? I bought my tickets in Feb. 07 for this year's conference and I was able to find a flight out of LA for $287. If you start early enough maybe you could could find a fare that would make him happier.
GourmetGirl said:Now that is some dedication to PC Ellen! wow! I have always traveled by looking out for myself 1st. If I can fly with someone else, great... if not, then I get to meet some new friends. I am not at that financial point in my life where I can sacrifice $100-$200 to "wait and let someone else plan it." Maybe this year, you should send out an email when you find a great price and let people know that I found this great price and would love to have you join me on this flight! I would totally be annoyed at that situation as well!!!!!
When budgeting for a conference, consider expenses such as registration fees, travel costs (airfare, gas, or public transport), accommodation (hotel or other lodging), meals, and any additional costs for materials or activities during the conference.
To save money on travel expenses, consider booking flights in advance, using public transportation instead of taxis, carpooling with other attendees, or driving if it’s feasible. Additionally, look for discounts or deals on travel websites and consider flying into nearby airports if they offer cheaper options.
Yes, you can reduce accommodation costs by booking your hotel early, using group rates, or staying with friends or family if they live nearby. Additionally, consider alternative lodging options like hostels, vacation rentals, or budget hotels that may offer lower rates.
When budgeting for meals, consider the number of days you will be attending the conference and the average cost of meals in the area. You can save money by opting for less expensive dining options, bringing snacks, or taking advantage of any meal packages offered by the conference organizers.
Yes, many conferences offer scholarships or sponsorship opportunities for attendees. Check the conference website for any available financial assistance programs, and consider reaching out to your network or your employer to see if they can provide support for your attendance.
