I have the non-alcoholic Sangria recipe that comes with the Wine Bottle Opener, but wondered if anyone out there has a good "real" Sangria recipe with alcohol. I checked all the files here and couldn't find one. I want to pass one along to my host for my "Tempting Tapas" show on Thursday incase she wants to serve this. Thanks so much! :)

Thank you! I'm just going to have the host try the Sangria recipe that came with the Wine Bottle Opener, but use real red wine instead of nonalcoholic and see what happens. :) Thanks!

SangriaBecky -

this is my favorite sangria EVER - it was in the July 2001 Bon Appetit - my gourmet group cooked the entire bbq section that year for the 4th - it's been made many, many times since!

1 750-ml bottle of chilled White Zinfandel
1/2 cup peach schnapps
2 tablespoons Cointreau or other orange liqueur
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
1 lemon, sliced
1 orange, sliced
1 peach, sliced into wedges
1 10-ounce bottle of chilled club soda
Ice cubes

Mix first 8 ingredients in tall pitcher. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to blend. Mix in club soda. Fill 6 wineglasses with ice cubes. Pour sangria over ice and serve.

There are many more yummy ones at epicurious.com in the drinks section:) Good luck!

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need for a basic sangria recipe?

A basic sangria recipe typically includes red wine, fresh fruit (such as oranges, lemons, and berries), a sweetener (like sugar or honey), and a splash of brandy or orange liqueur. You can also add soda water or lemon-lime soda for some fizz.

Can I use white wine instead of red wine for sangria?

Yes, you can definitely use white wine to make a refreshing white sangria. Just replace the red wine with a dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio and follow the same basic recipe, adding fruits like peaches, apples, and berries.

How long should I let sangria sit before serving?

For the best flavor, it's recommended to let your sangria sit in the refrigerator for at least 2-4 hours before serving. This allows the fruits to infuse their flavors into the wine. If you have more time, letting it sit overnight is even better!

Can I make sangria ahead of time?

Absolutely! Sangria can be made ahead of time, which makes it a great option for parties. Just prepare it a few hours or even a day in advance. If you're adding soda for fizz, consider adding it just before serving to maintain the bubbles.

What fruits work best in sangria?

Popular fruits for sangria include oranges, lemons, limes, berries, peaches, and apples. You can mix and match based on your preferences and the season. Just make sure to use ripe, fresh fruits for the best flavor!
