ok all you guys I know this is a stupid question but does anyone know when you can walk on grass after it is planted? We planted grass in our backyard and it came in beautiful but we were unsure of when we could walk on it.

you want to wait until you mow it for the first time, so when it gets pretty high, like 4 inches, then only cut a little bit off.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I walk on new grass in my backyard?

Typically, you should wait at least 2 to 3 weeks after seeding before walking on new grass. This allows the grass to establish roots and grow strong enough to withstand foot traffic.

How can I tell if my new grass is ready for walking?

You can check if your new grass is ready by gently tugging on a few blades. If they resist and stay rooted in the soil, it’s a good sign that the grass is ready for light foot traffic.

What should I do if I need to walk on new grass before it's ready?

If you must walk on new grass before it’s fully established, try to limit your steps to designated paths and avoid heavy foot traffic. Consider using boards or stepping stones to distribute your weight and minimize damage.

Will walking on new grass damage it?

Yes, walking on new grass can damage it, especially if it hasn’t established strong roots. It can lead to bare spots, compacted soil, and hinder growth. It’s best to avoid walking on it until it’s fully established.

How long does it take for new grass to fully establish?

New grass typically takes about 6 to 8 weeks to fully establish, depending on the grass type, weather conditions, and care provided. During this time, it’s important to keep foot traffic to a minimum.
