I am meeting my parents in Memphis in May. My mom always wanted to see Graceland. I always wanted to see Beale. I have a room booked at the Days Inn across the street from Graceland. I have been checking prices of the downtown hotels and they are spendy. Are there any deals that you locals know about. Are there areas to avoid?

Thanks!

Can't give you advice about the hotel - but I went to Graceland 9 years ago and loved it! I'm a huge Elvis fan and loved the tour. Beale St. is cool too - only went there during the day. Stayed in Tunica, Mississippi (which isn't too far) where there are a lot of casinos and stayed at one of the hotels there.

Are you flying in? Try the airport hotels, close to Graceland and Memphis in May. Also, Tunica is about 20-25 minutes away. Downtown is expensive. Traffic isn't too bad most of the time, so you could stay anywhere and not have too much travel time. It does get a little congested when events are going on. Some people stay in the Olive Branch, MS area. How long are you going to be staying? Weekly rates are usually good in Memphis.

Can't give you any advise either; but our family went to Graceland when I was in middle school & I still remember lots of it. It was fun (& I'm not even a big Elvis fan!)

I was there almost 20 years ago and still remember everything. Beale St. was amazing! There were street performers everywhere...I loved it. At the time they were building pyramids and the crosswalks had hieroglyphics (sp) instead of the normal lines. I remember we went on a tour that was on land, but then the vehicle we were in also could float on water. I remember being amazed by that as well. Try going to the Peabody Hotel to watch the ducks. I think a couple times a day they are switched out and there is some little ceremony. Pretty cute and the hotel was beautiful.Oh and Graceland!!!!!!!! Just amazing!! Elvis had an aunt who was living there at the time, so upstairs was closed off because that's where she lived. She was sitting outside when we went to the area that houses his costumes and her dog ran over and I got to pet him. When you're 11 it doesn't get much cooler than that!! It's totally a must see!!!!!!
