Ok, for the elegant artichoke cups, that calls for wonton wrappers..I could only find egg roll wraps at my grocery store..Anyone ever use this?

Is there a big difference?

they are actually the same just bigger. i think you should be able to cut them in 4 squares and get the wonton size.

Thanks for the tip, 'cause I haven't been able to find them either! :)

I found them in the produce section at walmart...I hope that helps.

Thats where I get mine...In the produce dept, right next to the egg roll wrappers.....;)

yeah, but the texture of the wrappers was different...I felt better using the wontons..but at that point.. I was about to scream...and had just given up..:> LOL

MF - don't know how often you're in Ch'twn, but you can get them atthe Sobeys (Buchanan Dr, maybe Allen St. too) also at Superstore on Univ Ave, (the one by Indigo, not in West Royalty). I would think you could get them at the Montague stores?!? I've never done grocery shopping east of Startford:)

Frequently Asked Questions

What are egg roll wraps and how do they differ from wonton wrappers?

Egg roll wraps are thicker and larger than wonton wrappers, making them ideal for creating sturdy cups that can hold fillings without breaking. Wonton wrappers are thinner and typically used for smaller, delicate dumplings. When making artichoke cups, egg roll wraps provide a more robust structure.

Can I use egg roll wraps for other types of appetizers?

Absolutely! Egg roll wraps are versatile and can be used for a variety of appetizers beyond artichoke cups. You can fill them with ingredients like cheese, vegetables, or meats, and bake or fry them to create delicious finger foods.

How do I prepare egg roll wraps for making artichoke cups?

To prepare egg roll wraps for artichoke cups, first cut the wraps into smaller squares or circles, depending on your desired cup size. Then, lightly grease a muffin tin and press the cut wraps into the cups, ensuring they fit snugly. Pre-bake them for a few minutes before adding your filling to achieve a crispy texture.

What fillings work best with egg roll wraps for artichoke cups?

For artichoke cups, a mixture of artichoke hearts, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic, and herbs works wonderfully. You can also experiment with different cheeses, spinach, or even crab meat for added flavor. The key is to ensure the filling is not too watery to prevent sogginess.

Can I freeze egg roll wraps once they are filled?

Yes, you can freeze filled egg roll wraps before baking them. Just make sure to arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze individually before transferring them to a freezer-safe container. When you're ready to bake, you can cook them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
